It was the night of the 2020 VMAs, Y/n was just beginning her performance infront of her friends, fellow celebrities and fans

Everyone listened carefully as Y/n sung her recently realised song, perhaps people were thinking too much into it but as the song went on people starting speculating who it was about

Y/n sang beautifully and the crowd listened even more intently as she sang the chorus, potentially calling out an ex

Y/n looked down to the front row where Hailee would be sitting if she didn't have covid, she missed not seeing her pretty smile, she missed their eyes locking on each other as Y/n would sing making it seem like they were the only ones there (ano cheesy)
As the song came to a close, the whole arenas stood up clapping for her. Y/n blew kisses to the crowd before heading off stage, everyone had a pretty good idea of what Y/n's song was about by the end and people wanted to make sure everyone knew
-The next day- -Y/n's Pov-
"Morning Baby" You said slowly opening your eyes facing Hailee, surprised you weren't met with Hailee's face lying next to you but rather her arm you sat up. "Baby? Whatcha up to?" you ask Hailee whose still focusing on her phone, mindlessly scrolling though what looks like Instagram from your side view, "Hailee?" You ask again while gently nudging her arm, "we broke up?" Hailee says turning her head to face you finally, you were taken a back by her question and you tilted your head to the side slightly. "What do you mean?" You ask very confused, "look" Hailee turns her phone to you showing you the news headline, "Y/n L/n's performance at last nights VMAS confirms Hailee Steinfeld break up?"
"That's clearly not true" you speak up after reading the headline, "why do they think that?" Hailee asks lowering her phone, "I'm not sure...I didn't write that song about you" you explain to Hailee, "I know you didn't but why do they think that you did...just cause we haven't been out in public together cause I've been stuck in the apartment means we've broken up?" Hailee starts to tear up, you lift her phone out of her hands and place it down on the covers before climbing onto her lap and wrapping your arms around her neck, "I don't care what the stupid news thinks okay?...i love you and I'm proud of that song no matter how people perceive it" you place a few kisses on her lips before pulling away seeing her cute smile, "now keep that smile there for me alright?" You say causing her to laugh

You scrolled through the growing comments for a bit just reading what people thought about the whole 'breakup with Hailee' controversy, it was nice to know people were on your side of it
You put down your phone when you heard footsteps coming down the stairs, you turned towards the arch opening between the hallway and the kitchen as Hailee walked in, "Good-morning" Hailee greeted feeling a lot happier now, she walked over and placed a kiss on your forehead before walking over to the fridge. You watched carefully as Hailee made her breakfast, "what?" She asked stopping her task when she noticed you staring, "nothing...absolutely nothing" you replied while standing up and walking over to her, you stood behind her and wrapped your arms around her waist before leaning your head into the crook of her neck, "that tickles" Hailee laughs as she feels your steady breathes hitting her neck, "I'm not sorry" you say slightly pulling away from her neck, she turns to look down at you and places a kiss on your cheek. "I love you" you say squeezing her a little tighter before unwrapping your arms to stand beside her, "and I love you too" she says leaning down slightly, softly and lovingly kissing you on the lips
