Haiden Shaughnessy was a West Virginian boy born in the rural outskirts of West Virginia in the early 50's to Paul and Josephine who were well-known in the community for their farm's service. Haiden was also the younger brother to Hector Shaughnessy. But from a young age, Haiden had befriended a boy from his kindergarten named Dean Disraeli and he was infamously known among the kids for being a goody-two shoes type of bully. He always got his way with everything and he already had half the teachers there adoring him and he sucked up well to them. It was blatant evidence that Dean didn't genuinely like Haiden, but played along with their fake friendship. He already saw just fragile he was and he wanted to see how dumb he was and so he could play with his mind. For a while, this worked and poor Haiden remained oblivious toward the fact that his new friend was nothing but a snake.
They remained friends a little longer though and they both even transferred over to the same primary (elementary) school together. People began to suspect that maybe their friendship wasn't so pure after all, including members of Haiden's family. Dean sucked up to Mrs Shaughnessy all the time whenever he'd come over, whereas Paul and Hector started growing weary of Haiden's friend.
Behind Haiden's bright smiles he displayed whenever the two were together, he was indeed aware of Dean's facade and behind the scenes, Dean would manipulate Haiden to do things without his consent, like smoke in alleyways, steal from local stores and mouth off to the teachers at their school. All three things Haiden didn't like the sound of at all, since unlike his friend, he was raised good and he couldn't see what his friend saw that was so good in doing things like this. Regardless though, he submitted to him and he stayed quiet about the whole ordeal.
