It had been a few months since Minho started living with me, and honestly, it was better than I’d expected.
Having him around gave me a sense of purpose, someone to distract me and make the house feel less lonely. Over the past few months, we’d grown closer, though Minho still carried a guardedness about him, like he was always bracing for the worst.
Still, he’d come a long way. His wounds had healed well, and the bandages that were once a daily routine were now only a memory. I was glad to see him gaining confidence, even if progress was slow.
My phone’s sudden ringtone broke through the quiet. I flinched before realizing what it was.
Sunshine Twin is calling.
I chuckled at the contact name and answered. “Hey, Lix. What’s up?”
“Hiya!” Felix’s cheerful voice came through loud and clear. “We’re going to the club tonight, and you’re coming with us!”
I sighed. “I’ll think about it.”
“Nope, no thinking! You are coming. Bring Minho too—we love meeting new people.”
“Okay, okay. I’ll ask him.”
“Great! We’ll be at the usual spot by 7. Don’t be late.”
Before I could reply, Felix added, “Oh, and I’m coming to your place first. Your wardrobe is tragic, and you need my help.”
“HEY! My fashion isn’t lame!” I protested.
Felix ignored me. “See you soon!”
The line went dead. I groaned, knowing there was no arguing with Felix once he’d made up his mind.
I knocked on Minho’s door, leaning against the frame when he hummed in acknowledgment.
“My friend Felix invited us to the club tonight. He specifically said to bring you. Interested?”
Minho hesitated, glancing up from his spot on the bed. “Sure… When?”
“Uh, in a few hours. He said to be there by 7, but he’s coming here first to ‘fix my tragic wardrobe.’”
Minho smirked faintly. “Alright, I’ll get ready.”
With that, he hopped out of bed, and I left to prepare as well.
---
Felix arrived like a whirlwind, bursting through my door without so much as a knock.
“HEY, BITCH!”
“Can you not scream the second you step inside?” I grumbled, glaring at him as I finished fixing my hair.
Felix ignored me, already eyeing my outfit with thinly veiled disappointment. “That’s it? Where’s the effort? Accessories? Makeup? You need help, clearly.”
“None, nope, and I’m good,” I said firmly.
Felix gasped dramatically. “You’re so boring! Fine, I’ll do your makeup instead.”
“I already sai—”
But it was no use. Moments later, I was sitting with a pout while Felix meticulously applied eyeliner.
“Done!” he announced triumphantly. “Look at yourself in the mirror!”
Reluctantly, I glanced at my reflection. It wasn’t bad—actually, it was kind of cool—but I wasn’t about to admit that to Felix.
I knocked on Minho’s door once I was ready. He opened it, and I froze.
He wasn’t wearing anything extravagant—just a fitted black button-up and dark jeans—but somehow, he looked effortlessly stunning.
“OH MY GOD, YOU LOOK AMAZING!” Felix squealed, pulling me from my trance.
“You’re going to scare him,” I muttered, swatting Felix’s arm.
Felix grinned. “He probably already likes me more than you. Right, Minho?”
Minho blinked, caught off guard. “Uh… sure?”
“See?!” Felix teased. “You’re officially replaced.”
“Yeah, yeah,” I grumbled, leading the way to my car.
---
Felix insisted on playing DJ during the drive, his playlist a chaotic mix of pop hits and old-school jams. Minho seemed amused, occasionally chuckling at Felix’s antics.
When we arrived, our friends waved us over. Felix immediately launched into introductions.
“This is Minho,” I said. “Minho, these are my friends: Hyunjin, Jeongin, Seungmin, Chan, and Changbin.”
Minho gave a small, awkward wave.
Hyunjin grinned. “Nice to meet you! Now, let’s party!”
The group scattered quickly—Hyunjin, Felix, and Jeongin disappearing into the crowd; Chan and Seungmin heading off to chat; and Changbin slipping outside, likely to smoke. That left me and Minho at the bar.
“Want a drink?” I asked.
“Surprise me.”
I ordered two cosmopolitans and handed one to him. We sipped our drinks, making small talk. Though the atmosphere was lively, I found myself distracted, unable to tear my gaze from Minho’s face.
“I’ll step outside for some air,” I said after a while. “Want to join?”
“I’ll stay here,” Minho replied, his voice a little hazy from the drinks.
The cool night air was a welcome relief as I stepped into the alley behind the club. I spotted Changbin leaning against the wall, a cigarette in hand.
“Hey,” I said, joining him. “You okay?”
Changbin nodded, but his usual confidence was absent. He looked tense, lost in thought.
“You know,” I said softly, “whatever’s bothering you, it’ll work out. It always does.”
He glanced at me, a flicker of gratitude in his eyes, before looking away again.
We stood in silence for a while, the distant thrum of the club music filling the void.
Eventually, I straightened. “I’m heading back. You coming?”
Changbin nodded, stubbing out his cigarette.
---
When I returned to the bar, Minho was gone. My chest tightened as I looked around, scanning the room for him.
I found Felix and the others dancing and asked if Minho had joined them.
“Nope,” Hyunjin said, shaking his head. “Haven’t seen him.”
Panic bubbled in my chest. Minho wasn’t the type to wander off. Something felt wrong.
“I’m going to look for him,” I said, already heading toward the exit.
