Promise.

A declaration of assurance or to give good grounds towards another individual. A word of honor; a pledge made by people

It could either be kept till the very ends of the earth, or rather be broken and shattered like glass- but as the saying goes, "Promises are meant to be broken" it's hard keeping a promise sometimes; it's easy to make yet hard to keep

A promise between a late beloved someone and you, who was still an immature child oblivious of the world around them...wasn't quite the thing. Especially when you were just six years old at that occasion didn't quite help at all

I mean, when we live in a world wherein all those dear to you don't live forever, it's hard letting them go to someplace that we can't follow. Death was never a concept a kid of the age of six would understand quite well. At that age, kids would be in the warmth of their parents while playing and goofing around like other kids do

Well....Jakah had it different.

A child of six years old, who grew up with a happy family- a hardworking father, a loving mother and a nine year old sister who had his back at all times necessary

Despite their happy family portrait, behind the scenes laid the small cracks of their relationship. Their Mother was never a healthy person, she started becoming sickly the moment Jakah became four and started becoming worse since then

Due to how expensive the medicine that they needed to buy in order for their Mother to get better, their Father who now had burdened the pressure started working many part time jobs just to buy those medicines to make his wife better

As kids back then, all they could do was watch the event happening in front of them. It's not like they could do anything to help as they were just little kids who, at most times needed the guidance of adults

As much as Jakah wanted to make his Mother's pain go away, he couldn't do anything in that little state of his. All he could do was just stay by her side....even till, the day she died on her deathbed

It was...an unexpected event for the kids. Although knowing she wouldn't see her kids grow up as what she wished for, with the last ounce of eternal breath of life that she had, she handed Jakah a locket

"Zawse love you." It said

"You keep this locket....cherish this and keep it with you. Someday, when you and your sister grow up...whenever you need me, just open the locket..." Was what his Mother had told him with a weak smile, her frail hand gently caressing her beloved son's cheek like a soft little feather
