Chapter 9

You all began walking out of the hideout for your baptism. You were at the tail end of the group and just out the corner of your eye you saw the building repair itself with magic right behind you

Is this place enchanted?

"Quit your lollygaggin' Shortcake!" Captain Yami yelled for you to come join the group

"Yes sir!" You yelled back and ran to the front with everyone

"Alright, The Runt will be goin' first while The Sorceress can go next." Magna explained and you nodded

You stood next to Captain Yami which was really intense even though he wasn't doing anything

"Shortcake," he said abruptly, lighting up a new cigarette

"Yes?!" you shouted loudly out of fear

"Geez, relax. I'm not gonna hurt ya." he said watching the events before him start to build up

You took a long-winded exhale in relief

"Not yet anyway." he shrugged crossing his arms over his chest. You once again held your breath as you stood next to him. His domineering presence will take some getting used to on your part, but since everyone respected him so much and was super friendly with him

Maybe you could be too

"Where'd you get those Katanas from?" he asked you as you watched Asta intently get ready for his fight

"I got them from my late father." you spit out quickly, still not ready to relive those moments from the past. Yami could see that by how you answered his question and left it at that

"I noticed the corner of your grimoire is tan. Got any idea why that is?" he asked taking a long drag of his cigarette and letting the smoke out into the air

"No sir. It just came that way." you said

"Y/n, come sit over here! You'll be able to see more!" you peered around Yami's huge figure to see Vanessa waving for you to come sit next to her

You looked up at Yami for some reason, as if you were asking permission to leave even though your conversation seemed like it ended

"Go ahead, I don't know what you're staring at me for." he said taking another long drag of his cigarette

"Thank you, sir." you bowed and made your way over to the group that sat on the couch. You sat in front of Luck who asked to look at your sword handles to which you granted him permission to do so

Charmy offered you 1/4 of a cupcake she was about to eat, which you took happily as you watched the fight before you about to begin

"HERE WE GO! GO! GO! FIRST, I WANT TO SEE YOUR PHYISICAL PROWLESS!" Magna yelled as you mentally groaned knowing you'd have to do that too

"5,000 crunches!" you choked on the cupcake Charmy gave you as Vanessa patted your back to get you to stop choking

"I hope he cuts that down by 4,600 because I'm not doing that!" you choked out you've only been able to get to at least 450 sit-ups if you pushed yourself hard enough maybe you could get to 500 but not up to the thousands! That felt unreal

"Well, if you wanna be here, ya gotta push past your limits. That's what Yami tells us to do all the time." Vanessa just told you like it was, which you had to accept eventually if you wanted to become a Magic Knight Captain one day

You watched as Asta began his physical exam, going from one thing to the next. You heard Vanessa yawn in exhaustion, finding this part boring like everyone else
