Melanie woke up to a noise that came from the door. She opened her eyes allowing the light from the room the fill her eyes. She opened them to see her Uncle and her Aunt in her room with a birthday cake.
"Happy birthday to you. Happy birthday to you. Happy birthday dear Melanie" They sang and she smiled from ear to ear. In that moment she was happy. Her mom was coming home finally after a year away. Her Uncle and her Aunt made her cake and on top of that her two witch friends Lizzie and Josie would be here to make her company.
"Thank you"She said and dipped her two fingers into the side of the cake tasting it. "It's good it's really good"
"Ahh thank god, We worked-I mean Elena worked her ass off on it" Damon said but corrected himself seeing the look Elena gave him." Make a wish birthday girl" Damon said and Melanie put a big though to it. Every year it was something like. I wish my mom would make it, and luckily she made it she never missed her daughters birthday not once in all those years. But this year she decided to go with something else. I wish I could see dad. And she blew out the candles.
"I'm glad you like and when you come down we can some proper breakfast" Elena said and they left. Melanie inhaled a breath of fresh air as she opened the window. She smiling because everything was going to be perfect today. Little did she know reality had other plans for her.
Melanie rushed downstairs on the way she was met by the photos of her childhood. She smiled at the photo where her dad was kissing her mom on their wedding it was always her favorite.
When she sat down at the kitchen table. Her aunt served her the cake they made. It was chocolate cake with bananas in it. The outside was covered in white fondant and there was written in purple. Happy birthday Melanie. Some edible flowers were arranged on top. In one word the cake looked fabulous.
Melanie ate the cake while talking and laughing with her aunt and uncle. She loved mornings like these. Mornings when all she had to worry about if she was going to eat something else or not. Mornings when life didn't feel like it was going to fall apart if she was happy again. Melanie at some point though she was cursed because her first boyfriend died after a year. She felt like he might be the one. They were in a car accident she made it out without any major issues but he didn't.
A knock on the door brought everyone out of their moment. Damon went to open it expecting it to be Caroline. She was always early on this day. They would spend the day talking about what was new and all, then they would go shopping into town. And the cherry on top they would get biggest ice cream at the end of the day. It was one of the reasons why she loved her birthday.
Melanie rushed upstairs to grab the list that she made. She rushed down with a smile but instead of seeing her mom she was Lizzie and Josie standing there. Her smile faded which didn't go unnoticed by the twins.
