When Melanie woke up the next morning she smelled bacon and eggs. She walked downstairs to see her mom cooking. She crossed her arms over her chest as she stepped down. Before Melanie got a chance to speak Caroline started.
"Melanie I can not express how sorry I am that I missed it, but I want you to know I was willing to vamp speed across the entire US to get here. I'm sorry I missed it, I will make it up to you. We can spend the entire day together, I already ordered a cake and we can go shopping and I will buy you ice cream at the end of the day" Caroline said trying to make up for her mistakes, instead of answering Melanie just sat down at the table and ate in silence. She was going to give her mom silent treatment.
Damon and Elena walked downstairs and saw Caroline with a defeated face and Mel eating quietly. Melanie never ate quietly, she was always talking about something anything just so that she doesn't have to eat in quiet. One time she started talking about how good pancakes are and how many toppings are there just so that they wouldn't eat in silence. That's why this scene was shocking for the married couple to see. This has only happened once. When Mel asked about her dad and why is he never home and they had to tell her the truth. And the only person who got her to talk was Hope because she perfectly understood what it was like to loose her dad. Even if Hope's father wasn't dead he was still absent. That's how Damon figured that maybe she would be able to bring Melanie out of her state too.
"Hello" Hope said into the phone.
"Hey Hope, we have a seriously problem" Damon started and Hope's face immediately became alarmed as to what happened.
"What's wrong?"
"Caroline is here and Melanie is eating in silence, could you maybe come over"He asked while scratching the back of his neck. Hope and Mel decided it would be in everyone's best interest if Hope's name remained Marshall even after her parents died. It would stir up less trouble and Ric didn't want the other students to pick on her or be terrified.
"Yeah sure I'll be right there" The moment she said those words she picked up a piece of paper from her book shelf and darted out of the room like a lighting. She skipped down the stairs and out of the school on the way she bumped into Josie and Lizzie.
"Sorry" She said quickly and continued to run through the hallway but the twins ran after her.
"Hope, what's wrong?" Lizzie asked seeing as Hope rarely came out of her room and she was never in a hurry.
"Well, Caroline showed up and Mel is giving her the silent treatment, so I thought I'd go help" Hope said and twins nodded.
"Okay maybe we can stop by later or something" Josie said and Hope nodded. She understood why the twins wanted to help they were her friends but she appreciated Damon for calling her.
