After Mii-chan was abandoned by Hirata, I then picked her up as is now piggyback riding me.

We only exchange words shortly, comforting her that what Hirata had said is not in the least true.

It was quite effective, even though those words were coming from a plain-guy like me.

The year-end special exam will be three days from now. I need everyone to be at their best condition to increase the probability of winning and I can make full use of them as the class commander.

Forget Hirata for now. I need to lift Mii-chan's spirit since she is one of the prominent students in our class.

I can't leave her alone while being totally depressed.

I continue walking the pathway towards the small park of the school in silence. Some students that noticed us along the way, started whispering to each other and there were also a few that chuckled.

‘You guys are not helping.’

Mii-chan then pushed her face more, embarrassed after being seen by the others.

I sighed internally.

What a baby.’

Those people didn't bother me a bit but I guess I can't ignore the person behind me.

Still walking, keeping my gaze to the road, I called her.

“I apologize that some students saw you together with me.” I'm not certain if a girl like Mii-chan is concerned about the girls status like Kei. The latter always nagged that she should not be seen talking with me in public or else it will affect her image.

I don't really understand girls what's not, but I have come to the conclusion that being associated with a gloomy person such as me will make others see her in a bad light.

But contrary to my expectations, Mii-chan shakes her head.

“You're wrong, Ayanokouji-kun. I was really glad that you're the person that is on my side right now.”  She may speak it in a whisper but it is enough for me to hear everything.

Glad huh? I guess I'm also thinking of the same thing.

I only sighed in relief. The silence once again continues, until the park is already within sight.

Girls' luck is on our side as it is fortunate that nobody was currently around the place.

I then went to the nearest bench that was slightly covered by the tree and some bushes.

“Is here, fine?” But I still ask for Mii-chan's opinion since I need her to be comfortable as much as possible.

Even if she wants to go to another spot, I don't have a problem with that.

Mii-chan was also a lot lighter than Horikita.

I can do this all day. (Cap)

“Yes.” When Mii-chan agreed. I turned my back to the bench then bent my knees, carefully dropping Mii-chan to the ground.

The time that I felt that her legs were already touching the ground, I let go of her thighs. “Thank you, Ayanokouji-kun.” Mii-chan bowed after I turned around, facing her.

I then held both of her shoulders – making Mii-chan completely surprised – she raised her head but I ignored her reaction as I slowly pushed her down to the bench.

“There is no need for that, Mii-chan. There, take a seat.”

“Uhmm… thanks again, Ayanokouji-kun.” Mii-chan shyly said while keeping her gaze at mine.

I just told her that I don't mind, but she goes again, thanking me for a small act of kindness.

Hirata should not act that way towards such a nice girl.

You're next.

Since I am still standing there, Mii-chan tapped the side of the bench. “Hmm… here, Ayanokouji-kun…” “Sure.” I gladly accepted her offer because it is uncomfortable talking about something in our current position.

I sat beside Mii-chan, not too close nor too far from her. It is a long enough distance that if she wants to rest on my shoulder, she can easily do it.

An awkward silence follows, I only look straight, being in daze to my surroundings, thinking about nothing at all. Meanwhile Mii-chan has her head hung down, both hands gripping her skirt, feeling like crying again.

I didn't offer any kind words to her. She needs to stand up to today's obstacles by herself. This is her own fight. If she continues clinging to Hirata even after what happened, the more it's required for her to step up.

Who knows when the normal Hirata will return. As of now, there is no sign of it, it just continues to become worse day by day. He is a straight up menace.

“H-hey, sob A-Ayanokouji-kun…?” her voice was shaking. Holding her tears from falling.

“Mhm.” I only hum in response.

“A–I'm sorry…”

I sighed internally.

What bygone has bygones, Mii-chan. We can't do anything about it.

I opened my mouth, ready to tell her that she didn't need to apologize to me, when Mii-chan suddenly started talking endlessly.

“I-I was becoming greedy sob I confessed to Hirata-kun even though it was obvious that he was not acting as himself sob I naively thought that my genuine feelings sob will somehow sob help him sob I sob I sob am pathetic I sob I sob I didn't respect his situation I sob I sob deserve such cruel rejection sob I–” I looked up, gazing at the orange sky that slowly turning dark as dusk will fall.

Love is a complicated thing huh?

Mii-chan continues venting out everything that is inside her. It starts from when she first saw Hirata, how she was bitter the time he went out with Kei– then hearing that the couple had broken up, our meeting, till the current situation.

I sighed internally.

There is no ending to this if I'll just let her be and me not doing anything.

So I stretched out my arm over her head, grabbed the side of her face then pushed it into my shoulder.

“Don't hold it, Mii-chan. It's fine to cry.” as I said those words.

My blazer then started to get wet. First it was a weak sob then it slowly became a long bawl.

“Uwaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.”

Feel free to release everything that is inside of you. Let go of those unnecessary emotions that are bottling up, keeping you on edge. Cry to your heart's desire for now because when everything is already fixed.

You have a price to pay for my assistance, Mii-chan.
