chapter five

" hello sydney. " Finnick Odair said with a sigh. I knew finnick already, on tv- not personally. he is commonly seen in the market, buying up as much saltwater taffy as his hands can possibly hold. it's quite funny really. he probably knows me as the crazy market girl running around, chasing children. which is something me and my brother did on occasion. we knew all the kids, but he probably didn't know that.

" hello finnick. I suppose the saltwater taffy got to you? " I said with a smile on my face

" not yet, and I suppose the slow legs and ugly face got to you first? " he said with a glare

" HEY! that's not nice guys. " havana shouted out, attempting to soothe the fight brewing

" whatever. " I said

" how about we discuss how we can present you and kaleb before the games? that's one of several things. " havana asked me

" sure! but- the only no is that I will not on any occasion be presented as too much of anything. "

" fair deal. " finnick said.

" where's the female mentor? " I questioned

" Annie's not doing so well " he answered glumly

" well I know that, but don't we have mags? or ruby? or ce- "

" it's just me this year sydney. " he stated

" okay.. " I said

an awkward silence filled the cabin between havana, finnick, and I for what seemed like several years until havana finally spoke

" how about sexy? or uhm... " havana stopped for a moment " mysterious? that fits you pretty well sydney. " havana offered

I layed out my options. mysterious would be good in and out of the arena. sexy not so much- but I could be some mysterious, scandalous, fearless, humble girl? or just a whole mush of them all

" how about we do mysterious and sexy but also kinda fearless? " I asked

" seems solid. " finnick agreed " but, your prep team will be the final deciders. " he added on

" fair enough. " I yawned " I'm going to bed. "

I left the cabin and went back into the dining room, then into the huge community cabin where every tribute could go. as I was walking through this area, I heard two people talking from inside of the hallway connecting these two rooms. I stopped dead in my tracks in the hallway to ease drop, obviously

" I'm telling you Glimmer, she's hot. " a familiar voice said

" wait who the hell are we talking about again? " a feminine voice answered, who I assume to be the district one girl

my wee little dinosaur brain took a couple seconds to realize they were talking about someone. was the voice I heard before a mentor?

" sydney! you dumb blonde bitch. "

okay, so now I know both answers to my questions

im the person they're talking about and the people talking about me are clove and glimmer.

fuck it, I'm gonna speak up. I walked a little bit until I reached the doorframe into the main community cabin and walked thru.

clove jerked her head back.

" not you. " she groaned. glimmer smirked and shoved her

I walked over to the station that had all of the previous victors headshots layed out and began to examine them " what did I do now? " I questioned

" glimmer, can you please leave for a moment? " clove asked

Glimmer almost immediately got up and darted out of the room, snickering

clove got up and walked towards me
" why did you ask her to leave? " I questioned.

clove got close to me again, and like at dinner. I could make out every sparkle in her eyes. little shit

suddenly clove put her hands around my waist. I jerked away in surprise and she brought me close again

" what the fuck. " I blurted out

" I will fucking snap your neck. listen to me. " clove inhaled sharply. " I want you to be my ally if you've gotten a score higher than a 10. "

" oh really? " I said sleeply

" yes really. " she lifted her hands up from my waist, winked and left the room. leaving me all alone.
