Prologue
~*~*~*~

She ran as fast as she could with that man on her trail. Pushing herself harder and harder in hopes of getting away. The adrenaline pumped through her veins, propelled throughout her body. Her legs were aching, but she couldn't stop. She had to keep going.

That is, until, finally, she couldn't take it anymore. The stabbing pain in her side had crept its way down to her thighs making it almost impossible to continue. Out of breath she slowed to a stop, gasping for air. Her entire body ached and trembled violently. The girl was scared out of her mind, she didn't know how much more she could take.

Completely incognizant of where she was, the teenage girl remained oblivious to her surroundings. Too preoccupied with the fear and adrenaline that surged through her vessels. The sky had grown dark by the hour and her vision was blurred from the pouring rain. It fell on the top of her head and made its way into her eyes. Or was it her tears that made her vision blurry?

The only thing that accompanied her this dark night, besides trees that stretched for miles, was a random streetlight placed here in the middle of nowhere.

She looked back at the path she came from and found herself alone. Had she outran him? Relief enveloped her body, letting out a cry of satisfaction. The girl didn't know whether to laugh or cry or maybe something in between. She stood there, panting, desperately trying to catch her breath.

Her clothes were drenched and mascara ran down her face. She knew she hadn't won yet, not until she reached the safety of other people. Unfortunately, she didn't get a look at his face. What could she tell the police when she reported him, she pondered.

Hope arose in her from the slightest sighting of street lights a few blocks away.

'People. My safety,' she thought. She mentally prepared herself to run with what little strength she had left as she took one step forward.

A sharp scream escaped her lips as she put the tiniest bit amount of weight on her wounded leg. That maniac she was running from had stabbed her leg as she tried to escape him. The pain hadn't kicked in until now. 'I shouldn't have stopped.' She shook her head at herself.

The girl was just as clueless to that psycho's reasonings for wanting to hurt her as she was his identity. All she knew was he was looking for some girl, but that girl was not her.

Her second attempt at putting pressure on her wounded leg sent her plummeting to the ground. A scream mixed from her frustration and pain escaped her lips.

'That man could be approaching at any second,' she thought. Forcing herself back up from the mud, she began limping her way in the direction of the streetlights. It only took several seconds before her leg gave out again. This time she fell head first into the mud, blanketing her eyes.

"No, no, no!" She cried as she furiously wiped at her eyelids with muddied hands. She pulled her soaked shirt up to her face to clean her eyes. But, any attempt to open them caused too much pain. Panic and stress arose in her with the realization that two of her senses were now gone. Sight, from the mud in her eyes, and hearing, from the deafening pitter-patter of the pouring rain.

Tears streamed down her face, but she wasn't going to give up. She cleaned off any mud that still covered her hands on her pants and made a third attempt to clear her eyes. It worked! She could see again, but maybe ignorance was bliss because what lied before her was a dark shadow of a man walking closer.

"NO!"

"You thought you could get away from me?" His voice was deep and calm. If not for the circumstances, it would almost be alluring. He chuckled to himself, it sent chills down the teenager's spine. He was dressed in all black, his face was hidden in the darkness of the shadows.
