----

"Mer, it's okay" you attempted to soothe your sobbing girlfriend.

she had just completed a 14-hour-long surgery that was unsuccessful.

"I did something wrong. I must have it all my fault" she cried into her hands as you rubbed her back

"Meredith you did the best you could, I know how you feel, everyone makes mistakes" you tried

your choice of words was obviously not the right move because sh completely exploded on you

"who could you possibly know how I feel. you're like a child y/n, too scared to perform a surgy that's not textbook, you're In your first year if residency. you're practically nothing. so no, you don't understand" she began to raise her voice.

She's never talked to you like this before, hell, the two of you have never really even gotten into an argument.

her tone brought tears to your eyes. you were extreamily uncomfortable with yelling. she would come to learn that.

"ok.. your hurting Mereith, i understand that, but you will not yell at me like that, not now, an dnot ever" you stated as a few tears rolled down your cheeks.

you picked up your lab coat and left the on-call room.

you got back to work, but you couldn't shake merediths words from your mind.

you weren't 'nothing', especially not to her.

you passed by her a few times in the hallway, thank god you weren't on her service that day.

"y/n" she called when you walked by her in the lobby

you were dressed and ready to go back to your apartment

you kept walking but she grabbed your arm, the two of you were outside at this point

"hey, wait a second" she kept a hold of your arm but let go when she realized you weren't going to leave

sh looked you up and down

"you're leaving?" she asked though it was pretty self-explanatory

"in shift ended 45 minutes ago" you stated simply

she nodded and took a deep breath

"Listen, I'm really sorry" she started

"it's fine Meredith, I really don't want to get into this right now" you turned to walk away again but she jumped in front of you.

"I shouldn't have yelled at you" she started again

"no you shouldn't have. I was only trying to help" she nodded in agreement

"you don't mean nothing, in fact you mean everything, to me at least" she looked down at her hands

she took another breath before starting again, her breath was shaky like there was tears behind it.

"I was upset, and it was wrong of me to take it out on you, I'm sorry, I'll never talk to you like that again" she looked into your eyes.

her pale blue eyes were glossy and her vision was blurred for the build up of tears. you knew she was truly sorry and that it wouldn't happen again

"its ok Mer, i forgive you" you reached one of your hands up to her arm where you stroked it gently and sent her a soft smile.

"it ok" she repeated assuring herself and you nodded again

you pulleld her into a hug and you feltg a few of her tears drip onto your shirt

when you pulled away you saw her smile gently at you, you excepted the action by smiling back at her

"you should get home, care if I stop by?" she asked pulling away and walking slightly back toward the hospital

"not at all" she gave you the look. the look. you knew she had something planned

your suspicions were confirmed when you felt her slip behind you in bed that night

you pulled away slightly to tease her and she muttered

"come here, let me fix this" as she pulled your hips into hers.
