Kentrosaurus was a small Stegosaur that once roamed Africa. Its name means 'pointed lizard'. Like other Stegosaurs, Kentrosaurus had spikes on its tail for defense, but its dorsal plates were more spike-like than its famous cousin.
Discovery
Only partial skeletons have been recovered for Kentrosaurus, and only in the Tenaguru Formation of Tanzania.
Paleoecology
The Tendaguru Formation consists of marine, tidal and low coastline environments. It was subtropical with seasonal rains and dry periods.
