Insane!
Not on this Earth would I ever imagine how dangerous Pole's father was. Me and Officer Kaga came to a conclusion and were almost certain that Axis was Pole's father all along. Reasonably, I've never met him, so I could never understand why he would hold his son like a hostage like a barbarian for his passion. Pole has also, never mentioned his father, whenever I clocked in, I only see him and his mother which made me default approve that his dad was just a busy trader who now I see, as a myth but definitely not a legend. Suddenly a stream of empathy overwhelmed me, blaming myself maybe I could've known more to comfort my best friend so as to undrag him and myself into such chaos.
As appointed, I arrived just before the bell struck. Heat starts accumulating this season, hard to catch a day that doesn't sweat your palm with lemon juice.
Right outside the fence, I encountered a rock giant, standing seven feet tall with dynamic eyes glancing down, sucking your courage to talk. He was definitely the most badass character I've seen in Liverpool.
Bald but with titan beard, hammer fist with authority had Katar nail on the edge of that just so happen to scratch his tender cheek, leaving a scary scar tilted on the side. Stout wrist wrapped around by a diamond watch, he probably stripped it off right from the hand of Prince Dubai. Such was a flex that could never take place outside a private office, but it did, so I walked up to him in a gangster style, saying :
How's it going, Boss. He was like Boss who, I'm Bob, said in a friendly tone. I'm actually about to keep trolling, but that was obviously not what happened. I simply told him I'm here for Kaga and the friendly gatekeeper Bob just guided me in.
Through the slight reflection of the glass walls, entered was Kaga's room. He was utterly infatuated with the two papers on his desk, both hands shrunk under the desk white licking them like a snail. It took me two tries to pull him into reality, but he only turned his logy eyes a mere bit. He might've looked at them for a long time since I could see bleary bloodshot bulged in both.
Abruptly, he came back to life, breathing as hard as he could while fingers gesticulated on his typewriter beside. " I think I've got it, we can go save your friend now!" He said excitedly.
Then, he handed the two papers we got yesterday to me. Confidently asked: " now, tell me, what do you see,
you should notice something very suspicious.
I looked through the words, thinking maybe grammar mistakes could give a hint but it was perfect English. So I kept ruminating, even took the texture of the paper into account, at last, I came to the conclusion that red ink was almost never used and had to be extra ordered from the store if you wanted to use them.
So I suggested: " Maybe we could get the information of the person who bought the ink to seek out their location! "
Kaga chuckled: " You're on the right track pal, the red ink was also what made me take a close look at the papers, but unfortunately using this information is just like fishing a needle in a haystack, no one keeps track of small things like these, yet technology isn't advanced enough."
" So, how we're gonna find my friend, he could be gone sooner or later, then it's gonna be a real needle in the haystack! " I argued.
"Welp, I was gonna give up hope if I didn't just realize this. Fortunately, our enemy made a mistake.
I gave this to my assistant yesterday and she examined it to be the typeface of Smith Corona's, the company of this typewriter. '
" The mistake? "
" No, that was just the basic we could prove," he answered while circling the number 500,000 on the paper. "Here it is. To type out the pound sign, we need to press the shift key. Axis forgot to release the Shift-key while typing '5', making the font very fuzzy, so Axis had to press the Back-space key to retype the ' 5', and it appeared as '5' " Kaga wrote the pattern again on the paper.
" I might be dumbfounded but anyone could just mistakenly press the wrong key in a hurry or when they're not experienced, pressing the Back-space key to pull back the roller also looks legit. " I said.
" You're right, but the mistakenly printed words are the crucial ones. First of all, when you press the shift-key, the roller goes up so you can print out the upper row of the word key. Now, in a typewriter, the upper rows represent signs and the down row represents numbers, and if you accidentally break the words you type, especially in this way, the upper part of the word key would be shown. In this case, '5' correspond with the '%' sign, so if Axis mistakenly pressed the wrong key and pulled back, something like this should appear "
Kaga grabbed the pen and drew '5' on the paper, "They don't match! " I exclaimed.
" Indeed. That's the turning point, " I'm mostly certain that for the 's' key at least, the word key had been refitted into a custom key. Now that you know the custom key represents a sign, you should see know what is it by now .'
"It's the US dollar sign " I replied in shock.
" Correct, Axis probably needed it for some illegal gun trades with his American buddies and it would've still been a needle if it's any other sign, but customizing a dollar sign into your typewriter in Liverpool? Nobody does that, that's why I'm confident that they'll be found quite easily.
Kaga called for his assistant Ashley, a gaudy lady, And asked her to search for the location that currently holds the customized typewriters. To my surprise, she returned within two hours with a notebook in hand.
" Gents, nearest typewriter stores said only two people recently customized a dollar key and you're right, the shop-owner said it was quite rare to have customers like these. " She reported.
I and Kaga looked at the locations in the notebook. The first one was a publishing company and the second one, was a Church, Mackenzie's Pyramid, how odd! We glanced at each other. Kaga, however, wore a big smile while slowly raising up the ring: " I told you so! "
