I hardly slept last night and when I could bear it no longer, I texted Jordan.

N: Jordan

N: Wake up

N: I got an emergency

N: Wake the fuck up

J: What the shit its 8 am

N:  I think I have a crush on Jay Gatsby

J: No

J: Tell me its not true

N: I'd be lying

J: Jesus Christ Nick

J: Also wtf is your taste in guys

J: Like jay gatsby really

N: STOP IT

N: He's really nice once you know him

J: Omg what happened at that party

Jordan called me almost immediately after, and proceeded to make so much fun of me. But she did tell me to keep being friends with him after I considered ghosting Gatsby and leaving the country.

The following day at lunch, I spotted Jay sitting with Dianna. He saw me and waved.

I might as well go sit with them; I had literally nothing to lose.

"Hey, guys," I said as I sat down at their table. Both of them greeted me with warm, friendly smiles. That was a nice change. While I like Tom, and all his friends, they weren't exactly the nicest people.

"Hey, old sport," Jay said, tossing his hair out of his face. Have I mentioned he has really pretty silver eyes? "Switching up the lunch arrangement, are we?"

I shrugged. "I thought I might."

Clang.

Someone slammed their backpack onto the table next to me. I nearly jumped out of my skin, but it was only Jordan.

"I see my two friend groups have converged. Nice."

She kept talking, rattling stuff off that happened earlier that day. She always did this though; Jordan would self describe as an introvert, but she loved to talk. Jay and I exchanged a knowing glance and a smile.

"And what are you guys doing for Halloween?" she finished, finally letting us talk.

"Nothing," Jay said.

I shrugged. "I'll probably just stay home and watch anime." Jordan and Dianna exchanged a look. I wasn't entirely sure, but it seemed like the two of them were on the verge of giddy laughter.

Not wanting to be made fun of, I clarified. "I'm not a weeb, I promise."

"They're perfect," Dianna laughed. I raised an eyebrow at Jay, who scrunched up his nose in equal confusion. I really could have screamed, it was very cute.

"Since you two losers don't have lives, you wanna come hang out with us on Halloween?"

"Sure," Jay and I both said. I looked back at Jordan and Dianna. They still looked like evil masterminds in cahoots; I didn't particularly like that.

"I'm guessing there's a catch."

Jordan shook her head. "Nope, nope. You and Jay just have to dress up as Attack on Titan characters with us."

Jay threw back his head in maniacal laughter. Jordan shot me a look saying, Really? This is the one? I shot her a look back saying, I hate you.
