8 MONTHS LATER
Remember when I said I wasn't going to join a group? Yeah well, here I was walking around the woods with Andrea and a lady named Michonne. I had ran into them while I was slowly being surrounded by a group of walkers. I thought I was about to die until I heard the sound of a katana slicing the walkers away. I was thankful for the last up until the point where she basically forced me to join them well, that was Andrea who forced me.
"Are you going to keep complaining about being with us or are you going to finally stop talking?" I had been complaining almost daily about being with them but I had a feeling if I left now I would just end up running into them all over again and that would be more embarrassing for me. "I'll keep complaining until a walker grabs me and finally ends my suffering, how about that?" Andrea looked at me, "For a fourteen year old, you sure do talk to us like a adult." She said before coughing. I don't remember when exactly Andrea got sick but it seemed like day after day she was just getting worse and it was actually starting to worry me. As much as I didn't want to join them, I wasn't going to sit around and let Andrea just die so, maybe that was the main purpose of me staying...guilt.
"I ran away from home at eleven and on my twelve birthday I found out that zombies were real so, excuse me for growing up so fast." I told her which made her go silent. "Alright you two, stop it." Michonne said right as I looked up to the sky and saw a airplane start to spiral out of the sky. "How the heck did they find a airplane, that actually works?" That was the only thing on my mind, which was normal for my age you could say but not normal in a zombie apocalypse where a plane was spinning out the sky and crashing. We all walked towards where the plane was and before we even got super close to it, Andrea was doubled over throwing up. I hated the sound of puking and so I walked away from them and made my way over to the plane.
When I walked over, not to my surprise everyone I saw was dead. "Dahlia!" I turned around and saw Michonne waving me over the moment I heard vehicles rolling up to where we were. "Crap!" I thought before quickly running over and crouching down with them. We watched as a couple of guys came out their trucks and started to search the airplane. As we were watching, I wondered where exactly they came from and how far they had to travel since I you weren't close to the city there was no way you had enough gas in a tank to travel far, I think. While the people searched the plane, walkers started to show up which also cause the walkers that Michonne had to start to make noise. I looked over at Michonne, upset because when I did join them I had to agree to not have weapons "because I was just a kid". All I had was a knife, what was that going to do to a walker unless I kid it in the knee to get it to my height? It's also not like we ran into actually people! I felt like she made me seem like I was a crazed and I definitely wasn't.
Michonne lulled her walkers and for a second we thought we were going to get caught but they ended up starting to leave. The breath I was holding from that, I ended up letting it go and relaxing a bit. But that was soon taken away from me when I heard a voice behind me, a voice I remember and hate. "That's it, nice little twirl around." We all started to slowly turn around and we came face to face with Merle. "Oh you got to be kidding me." I mumbled which made him look directly at me and smirked. "Aye kid! Looks like we meet again, how crazy is that?" I frowned and looked at his arm; I remember it being the one that he was handcuffed with, but he didn't have a whole hand so I assumed he had to cut it off and ended up replacing it with that sickening thing he had attached to it. "Andrea and the little girl, two in one twice the fun!" He said before laughing. I wanted to say something rude, but Michonne squeezed my arm to stop me from making a stupid decision. "Now, how's about a big hug from your old pal Merle?" I looked over at Andrea and watched her pass out, Michonne supported her body and all I could say in my head was...shit.
While we started walking towards the truck Merle was taking us to, I tried to dart off and run but someone shot me in my leg, making me fall over. "Oh come on! You thought you were getting off that easy?" I could hear that racists calling out to me. I tried to get up, but the pain I was feeling was nothing I've experienced before and I passed out.
When I woke up, I was in a place that looked close enough to a infirmary. Andrea was getting her temperature checked and it looked like Michonne was fine where she was but we definitely didn't have any of our weapons. "Where are we?" I asked which made everyone look over at me. "This lady said she can't tell us that." Andrea told me which made me groan. "Relax, your wound is pretty bad." The nurse said which made me roll my eyes. I wanted to say, "How could I get comfortable in this shithole" but I decided for myself for once that, that wasn't the best idea.
"You probably thought I wasn't real when you saw me." I looked over to where Merle was, clenching my teeth because this man actually made my blood boil now. Am I surprised he had someone shoot at me? Yes and that was only because of the fact that I was a kid. But I understand I guess since I did leave him on the roof to die which means I was the reason he had to cut his hand off. "Well, here I am." I heard him chuckle and bit my lip from saying something snarky towards him. "I guess this world gets smaller towards the end, huh?" I was slowly getting sick of this man opening his mouth but I knew I was at a disadvantage right now. We had no weapons, I was injured and him and his people would probably kill us without even thinking twice right now.
"You seen my brother?" I looked over at Andrea confused. "The racist has a brother!" Michonne shot a look at me. "Dahlia!" She snapped at me. "No, no let her speak. Yes I have a brother little girl and you left me to die. Now I wonder how my brother would feel if you by chance ran into him and he found out your the reason why I was dead." Now that shut me up. Of course then I would except all hell to run loose especially since his brother well, was his brother which meant they couldn't be to far off personality wise. "Not for a long time." Andrea said one Merle looked back at her. I could tell she seemed really scared compared to how Michonne looked. But I wasn't surprised by that, I've actually never seen Michonne scared the whole time I was traveling with her and Andrea.
I listened to Andrea list of what had happened while she was with the group. Everything I was trying to avoid had happened to them but from what I was hearing, T-dogg was alive and that made her feel good just a little. "What do you want from us?" Andrea asked which made him stand up and walk over to Michonne. I listened to his crappy answer and that fact that he wanted a thank you. "You shot me and held a gun at us, what's there to thank?" I spat at him which only made him laugh. "You seem a lot more talkative then from the last time I saw you sweetheart, how adorable." He said which made me roll my eyes before his attention went back to Michonne. "Thank you." Me and Michonne looked at Andrea like she was crazy. "What?" I questioned, looking confused as to why this man earned a thank you from anyone, especially Andrea.
I looked up from where I was sitting and saw the guy from earlier walk through the door and speak to Merle. From here on, she decided to just let the others talk since she was sure her mouth would end up getting them in trouble soon enough if she kept on. "We watched you drive a knife into the skulls of two dead men." I listened to their conversation and just shook my head. I understand them feeling bad for them, but they were dead and turned. Why not end their suffering right there? Also, the noise they make could've attracted walkers if any were close by. "Send you on your way. No hard feelings." Everything this man was saying sounded great but it was also to good to be true. Merle "saved them" and anything with Merle involved just sounded like hell to her.
