Chapter 4

"Ares Vaughn Gallahan."

"Present."

I smirked when I heard his name nang tawagin siya ng prof namin. Tinignan ko siya at kita kong naka-kunot ang noo niya. He's just fine with Ares. He doesn't like being called by his full name. Ilang mga pangalan pa ng kaklase pa namin ang tinawag niya bago matawag ang pangalan ko.

"Kakia Tamara Venicio."

That name made some of my classmates gasp. I'll just pretend I didn't hear any of it.

"Present."

I'm fully aware that my surname isn't just a common surname here. Whenever one hears the name Venicio, they would immediately think of my renowned father and older brother, Tassel. My father is known as a great businessman and my brother is an alumni of this school. Everyone knows him. Of course everyone should recognize the twins of the Venicios as well.

But I guess I overshadowed Kai too much before. Too much that he became an eyesore to others when we were together. I had a strong attitude while Kai was the quiet one.

They got used to associating the Venicios to being strong. When they didn't see Kai like that, they made fun of him. And I wasn't able to realize it all until now.

Napakuyom ko ang aking kamao. I badly want to get back at those who hurt Kai.

"What's making you mad, Kita? Focus." I flinched when Ares tapped my shoulder. Tinuon ko na lang ang atensyon ko sa prof namin na ngayon ay dinidiscuss ang syllabus for the first semester.

Here we go again with the complicated topics. I hate it, but I guess I'll just do my best this time.

Hindi nagtagal ang klase dahil first day pa lang naman. Sa ibang subjects, nagpakilala lang kami sa isa't isa and pagkatapos no'n ay dinismiss na rin kami.

Pupuntahan ko na sana si Kai pero naalala kong kasama ko si Ares.

"Gusto mo bang sumama sa'kin?" pag-aaya ko sa kanya.

"Where to?"

"To my brother." sagot ko.

He tilted his head like it's amazing to hear those words from me.

"Since you asked me, I'll join you. Wala rin naman akong gagawin." sabi niya bago tumayo.

Sabay kaming lumabas ng room and as expected, wala pa ngang ibang sections na nasa labas. Mukhang kami lang talaga ang maagang dinismiss. Nakarating kaagad kami sa room ni Kai at sinilip ko siya sa bintana.

I saw him, not sitting alone, but being surrounded by those jerks from earlier.

They're really not doing anything pero patuloy ko silang pinagmasdan.

"Is that your brother?" tinuro ni Ares si Kai.

"Yes."

"Why does he look so tense? Is there something to be nervous about?" nagtatakang tanong niya.

Since we're technically friends, I figured out I should tell him. It's not like Ares can't be trusted.

"I'm not yet sure but I suspect that those boys are bullying him. As far as I remember, I also saw them near my brother since Junior high." paliwanag ko.

"Yeah? Continue." sabi niya na para bang interesado talaga siya sa sinasabi ko.

"I'm also to blame for this. I didn't pay much attention to him. I only cared about myself and my image before, not noticing that my brother has been having a hard time by himself."

"It's never too late to make bawi." pa-conyo niyang sabi na nagpatawa sa akin.

"You're just like my brother when you speak like that." natatawang sabi ko sa kanya.
