You sat with Calum in the living room of your house, waiting for Ashton to text you back. "I don't understand why he'd cancel a date," you told Calum, smoothing out your dress. "We've been together almost three years, and he's never oncecancelled." Calum looked up from his phone. "Relax, Y/N, I'm sure he's got a good reason." You frowned and opened your mouth to reply when your phone buzzed;
Hey Y/N, sorry I had to cancel. Can you come over to my mum's place? -Ash xx
"Hey, can you drive me over to Ashtons please?"You asked Calum, showing him your phone. He nodded and picked up his car keys. "Come on then, let's go see why he cancelled." Maybe it was your imagination, but you could have sworn that Calum was suppressing a smile. You got into the passenger's seat of the car and grabbed a stack of CDs from the backseat. "Text Ash and tell him we're coming, okay?" Calum said as he began reversing from your driveway. You unlocked your phone and replied to Ash's text;
You better have a good excuse Ash. Calums bringing me over now. - Y/N xx
During the whole car ride, you and Calum kept silent. You began to worry about what Ashton was going to tell you when you got to his house. The drive seemed to take forever, but eventually you and Calum pulled into the driveway. As Calum turned off the car, you got another text;
I'm around the back. - Ash xx
You told Calum, and the two of you walked around to the back of the house. The backyard was decorated with fairy lights and flowers. You looked at Calum, who was grinning as he looked around. He looked... proud. "Y/N..." You looked around and saw Ashton, just off to your left, half hidden by shadows caused by the sunset. "Ash... what's all this?" You asked, turning to face him and still unable to piece everything together.
"Listen," he began. "I love you, so muchand I was going to do this at a restaurant but... I think this is better." You looked closer at Ashton. He'd clearly taken extra care to look good tonight; he wore a clean, ironed suit and had even made an effort to tame the mop of hair on his head. But he still looked nervous, almost like he wanted to run away, or throw up. Or both.
"Ash, if you're-"
He cut you off. "Y/N, listen. I've been working up the courage for this for over a month now, and I've talked with so many people and... I can't imagine being without you. I love you so, so much, and the fact that we've been together for almost three years now..." he paused and took a deep breath. You looked over your shoulder and saw that Luke and Michael had joined Calum. Where did they come from? You thought.
You looked back at Ashton, who was now kneeling in front of you. "Y/N... I think we're meant for each other... please... would you marry me?" You covered your mouth with one of your hands as Ash pulls the ring from his pocket. You still weren't entirely sure what you expected, but a proposal definitely wasn't on the list. "Y/N...?" Ashton looked confused and a little concern. You removed your hand from your mouth and nodded. "Yes... ofcourse I'll marry you Ash!"
Ashton jumped up and hugged you. Behind you, you could hear the boys commenting on how cute it was.
"Y/N's just lucky Ashton didn't lose the ring." You hear Mikey say. Everyone laughed, and you looked up Ashton who had the biggest smile on his face. Suddenly, you realised you were going to get to see that smile every day of your life. Ashton looked down at you. "Hey, don't cry." He laughed, wiping your cheek with one of his thumbs. "I'm sorry. I'm just so happy, Ashton. I love you." You stood up on your toes and kissed him, already eager to start your life with him.
