What is the sound of two people in love? The chirping of birds and the hum of the earth spinning. The summer air is sweet. Breathe in, breathe out. Warm sun beams down on us, highlighting your face. Mid-July. No worries or cares. Just us. You look up at me with smiling eyes and sigh, reaching out to twist my hair in your fingers. Everything feels right. I feel a sensation of contentment as you start humming to yourself. With a seemingly starved gaze, I take in all of your features with detail.
My face hardens a bit as the content feeling is quickly replaced with fear. Fear of loss. The fear of losing you, losing this. I pull you in a bit closer and close my eyes. After everything we went through...after almost losing you in the fight against Vecna, I've begun to understand my greatest fear: you leaving me behind. I try to memorize the way your skin feels against mine. The way your calloused fingers run through my hair, and how your heartbeat thumps against my chest. God, I hope we can stay this way forever.
