Chapter 12: Heartbreak

(9 months pregnant)

"Hey Regina" Emma said as she walked into her office,
"You know you could knock" Regina complained looking up from her paper work,
"should you really be working right now?" Emma asked "you can barely fit behind your desk!",
"what are you even doing here?" Regina said standing up,
"Did you forget I'm driving you to your doctors appointment?" Emma said handing Regina a blueberry muffin "thought you might be hungry" she
added.

"So Regina, how have you been?" Dr. Whale asked
"Very tired." Regina said lying down "I can't wait to get this baby out!"
"Sorry I'm late," Robin said opening the door "I had to drop Roland back to Marian's" he added kissing Regina's forehead
"Well you didn't miss out on anything" Dr. Whale said as he put some of the ultrasound gel on Regina's belly.
"So everything still seems to be normal," Whale said as he moved the wand around "are you feeling ok Regina? Any pains or dizziness or anything like that?" He added
"No, I'm doing ok." Regina answered
"Well that's great, You should expect the baby any day now." Whale said wiping the gel off Regina's belly,
"And Whale before we go could you please tell her she needs to stop working and relax?" Robin asked helping Regina up,
"Oh god Regina, you can't still be working?! You are due in 6 days, you need to stay home and relax.. because after the baby comes you won't be to." Whale said opening the door,
"I'll see you in the next few days" Whale called after them.

(2 days later)
"Robin! Wake up!" Regina screamed as she sat up
"What is it honey" Robin mumbled looking at the clock "it's 4 in the morning"
"Robin! I'm bleeding!" Regina said staring to cry
"OH MY GOSH!" Robin said jumping up "I'll call the ambulance" he added grabbing the phone.
( a few hours later)
"I'm sorry" Whale said walking up to Robin who was frantically waiting in the waiting room "I have some bad news" he added, a tear ran down Robins face
"The umbilical cord was wrapped around the baby's neck, we had to rush Regina in for a c-section, I'm sorry but the baby didn't make it."
"How's Regina?" Robin cried
"She lost a lot of blood during the operation, we are doing some tests, but it looks like she's going to be ok." Whale said.

Regina woke up crying,
"sweetheart are you ok?" Robin mumbled as he sat up
"I just had the worst dream" she sobbed as Robin put his arm around her
"It's all going to be ok," he whispered into her ear "I'm not going to let anything bad happen to you." he added.
