Carperia
Shamim's POV
I feel something for him.I can't label it just yet, but I think I have feelings for him. For me, it started a long time ago. Mother always told us we should marry up. My ambition was as high as possible until Nesrin got into the picture. She ruined my chances with the king.
It does not change the way I feel about him. It's getting stronger and now that I'm here, just a few feet away from his majesty, I can't help but try to remind myself to breathe. I'm trying to still my racing heart. I think I'm in love with the king.
"You should not be in this wing." A man stopped me by stepping in front of me and closing the open door that was giving me a glimpse of the king.
"I'm sorry. I think I got lost. I'm looking for Nesrin. She's my sister."
"She is in her chambers. Go back down the hall and keep going until you get to the door directly in front of you." He told me in a flat authoritative tone.
"Thank you." I stared at the door one more time before I walked away. We arrived in Carperia quite later than we had wished. Mother told us we must come because the king was going to officially propose to Nesrin. Thanks to the crazy Saine Neane weather, there were delays but finally we made it just to witness him spin her around and then he got on his knee.
I believe it's not yet a marriage and maybe, just maybe if I persist hard enough, there will be Queen Shamim and not Queen Nesrin.
I put on my best smile and forced the green eyes monster to take a back seat. I'm in front of the tall double doors. "Who are you looking for?" One of the guards asked me.
"Nesrin. She's my sister."
"Lady Nesrin," one if them spoke. "You have a guest. It's your sister. Will you see her?" He paid attention to me. "You may proceed."
I entered the double doors and they closed behind me. My eyes moved up to the ceiling first. It's beautiful. It's nothing like the wrought iron, stone and wood in Stone Hold. This is glamorous.
"Careful. Neck cramps are a consequence." Her familiar deep voice drew my attention to her.
She looks so tragic!
Right after he put the ring on her finger, he kissed her. I imagined myself in her place, enjoying the king's skilled lips. A few congratulations later, the king left and I followed hoping to get a chance to speak to him.
"Why the long face Nesrin? You just got engaged to the most powerful man in Chea Niva."
Her brown eyes narrowed at me. "I'm just processing what happened." She touched her ring. It is beautiful! Her bride price came with a lot of jewelry but none like this. None.
"May I?" I opened my palm. "May I see it?"
She extended her hand almost like a queen would. Nesrin, the tomboy is now the king's bride? The world must be upside down. She doesn't want this yet she gets this.
I took her hand and carefully slipped the ring off. "It's the most beautiful thing I have ever seen!"
"I still can't believe it Shamim. I keep thinking I'm going to wake up in my bed back at Stone Hold but it seems it's a real life occurrence. This is really happening to me. I'm really going to marry the king."
I tried on the ring. I extended my hand raising it to see the ring on my finger. "Oh Nesrin! It's absolutely gorgeous! If I were you I would never take it off!"
I sat beside her, my eyes glued to the stone sparkling under the yellow light in the room.
"That it is." She sighed.
