King Dargan's POV
It's raining steadily.

It's my wish that this rain cleanses the sickness that plagues this damn kingdom. There's a devil that bothers the sick minds that thought it is sensible to our blood on my dear mother!

The plan was to show up for the ball. Nesrin wasn't up to it. She said she was tired.

"Maybe it was meant for me." I tilted my head slightly to address my favorite confidant. "I am the blood king."

"It was not meant for you. It was meant to provoke you." General Curran responded to my opinion. "We are soldiers. Blood doesn't deter us. If it was you, you would wipe it off your face and carry on with the ball just to spite them. But they picked Her Majesty because they knew you're not there. They picked her because it will hurt her and for you it will hurt more. It was carefully thought about. Does it hurt Your Majesty?"

I eased my balled fists. I turned away from the dark rainy day, moving further into the warmth of my private living room. "They got what they wanted. I'm angry."

"I'm angry too. She didn't deserve that. I wish I would have gotten to her fast enough so that the blood was on me and not her."

"Thank you for your thoughts. She's been through enough without some half witted soulless mongrels targeting her. What did you find out?" I sat down. He took a seat too. Nortlock served us both cups of tea. "Thank you Nortlock. Please check on the Queen. Let her know her scandals will not be entertained this morning. I have a guest."

"Right away your Majesty. Excuse me." He left us.

Nesrin is behind the folding wooden doors. I left her naked in bed after ravishing her to my fill. The little woman is addictive. It keeps getting better and better between us.

"It was pig blood." General Curran informed me. "Two children, not older than ten years old were seen carrying buckets earlier that day. It could have been buckets of the blood."

"Children? That is disarming. Who would expect children to be carrying buckets of blood?"

"Children are supposed to represent innocence. There's no innocence in such actions because it's part of a bigger problem. Disrespect for the crown. I took the liberty to lias with the police chief. His men are looking for the two children."

"Let's be proactive. I have to ask though, what if there's no bigger picture? What if this was a childish prank?"

"Who do you know who would dare disrespect the crown?"

"Nesrin." We both chuckled. "But on a serious note, rebels."

"Exactly. And what is childish about what happened in Cray Thera? I hate to take you back there but didn't it start with whispers of dissension? Didn't it start with little acts of mockery? It will not happen again. It cannot happen in Carperia."

I leveled my gaze with the General who fought valiantly beside me. My father was fond of General Curran. He called him the man who got things done. He hasn't failed to prove himself so far.

"No it will not. I don't have any more family to spare."

"Which pushes me to suggest that you tell the police to take a back seat in this. Let the army run the show."

"You know that there is protocol. Imposing martial law on Chea Nivan soil is only in extreme circumstances. I won't be imposing martial law until I'm sure it's needed. For now, we give the police an opportunity to solve this."

"Yes SC, as you wish." He got up. "In the name of bring proactive, please take a look at this. I took the liberty to put together this protocol in case we face what we did in Cray Thera."
