I finally woke up peacefully! No annoying bell ringing in my ear. The sun was up and I had to hurry and find a job.
This dress wasn't good for walking in the middle of the woods, but it will have to do until I can find something better.
Alright, this is the plan: first, I must find a job that pays well. I can't afford to spend money on stupid things or maybe even food and water...
Second, I need to buy a train ticket that takes me to New York! Third... third... uh well I don't know. I guess I'll find out when I get there!

-

Nobody and I mean absolutely nobody in the stupid town would hire just because I'm a girl! How ridiculous is that?! And I'm mean there is no way in working in a factory! Girls my age go missing everyday.
I don't want to do this but it's my only option! I have to steal. I'm guessing I'm not too great at stealing because I've never done it before.
"Sorry mom... sorry dad, but I have to live a better life. You would've wanted this for me, right?"
I've read a book on thieves once. It taught me nothing on how to steal, but what kind of punishments a thief would receive for what crime they did.
I looked around for someone that looked to be rich. I saw a guy with a very expensive looking suit on. "This is my chance" I whispered to myself.
I snuck up behind him and grabbed some change in his pocket. He turned around in an instant and tried grabbing me while screaming, "Hey! You girl!" I ran away as fast as I could with 3 quarters in my hand! Three!
Before I could stop myself I started laughing. "Oh my God, Emmeline! Stop laughing you just broke the law!" I scolded myself.
The man was out of site and I had way more money than I need. This plan is working!
I went to the train station and got my ticket. I still had 60 cents left! I found an empty seat and rested my eyes. I can't wait for a fresh start!

-

I was jolted awake boy the train stopping. "Here we are... New York!" shouted the conductor. I smiled as I walked of the train. This is nothing like where I'm from!
Everyone is rushing around and has no time to stop. I don't quite think I'll fit in just yet.
I'm absolutely starved, I haven't had anything since that day I escaped. Alright, let's make another plan.
First: I need to find food, well I actually could buy something. Second: I have to find a job. I refuse to go around pick pocketing my whole life!
Everyone around me had carriages, and I can't see anything for miles! Great, just great.
I'll have to find a ride... maybe I can sneak onto one! Yes that could work!
I found a carriage with a lot of luggage so it hides me. New York here I come!

-

As soon as I got off from my hiding spot from the carriage I ran as fast as I could away. I can't go back there... I just can't.
Well, on the other hand I'm absolutely starved!
I haven't had anything to eat for what feels like ages! Oh but also have to find a job of some sort.
Im quite busy I suppose.
It's getting dark and despite the hours I slept on the train I'm very tired. I guess when you think too much you feel tired, because I didn't do much. Also I haven't ate or drank anything in days.
Honestly, the days are starting to blur together. That happened at finishing school. Finishing School was bad but, I don't think New York will be.
I started to drift to sleep when something caught my eye. It was a pearl necklace. It looked just like the necklace my mother used to wear everywhere.
I picked it up and put it on. Hopefully it looks as good as it would on her. I miss her. I miss her so much. Why me? Why did I have to suffer?

Maybe I deserve it.

That thought stayed in my mind as I fell asleep.
