Somewhere in Mexico

After a long, terrible day, darkness was finally falling.
But the party didn't seem getting to an end.

Rose sat by the warm swimming pool, glaring at her reflection on the water, hating what she saw, hating what was happening around her.

Her family was having a luxurious party at her uncle's expensive villa. Everyone was enjoying themselves. Everyone except her.

Because she was just entertainment. Nobody actually cared of what she wanted, of how she felt.
She was different.

She was the only daughter of two popular scientists who were so demanding to her.
She had to get the highest grades, she had to learn new languages, she had to be everything average teenagers weren't.
At nineteen she was fluent in seven languages. And at that party her relatives were delightfully challenging her to translate their silly jokes in the languages she knew.
She hated it.

She hated being like a doll, like a unique toy to play with.
She wished to go away, to abandon her sick family, to be free.
The sorrow was like choking her, but she didn't allow herself to cry openly.
She glared at her wrists, seeing the invisible handcuffs keeping her a prisoner. She wished to cut under her skin to free herself.

The Mexican music around her was deafening and shadows were dancing around her.
She wished to wear darkness as a cloak and leave that place.
Or just throw herself into the pool and drown.
She was still dripping wet after one of her cousins had pushed her into the water, finding it funny, challenging her to learn the fish's language.

Rose closed her eyes, trying to gain back control of her storming emotion.
At first she didn't notice anything different in the noises around her, until shouts overcome the background music.

When Rose opened her eyes, she found herself into a nightmare. A nightmare worse than the one she used to live in.

Her family was shouting and running from some intruders, people in dark uniforms and black masks to hide their identities, people who held rifles.

Rose gasped when fire was opened against the fleeing people. She wanted to stand up and run, but her legs became like jelly and she crawled towards the bushes, the only covered place nearby.
Her eyes spotted her parents, just before they fell under a shower of bullets.

Rose fell prone on the ground, wishing that the bushes would swallow her instead of rejecting her.

A screaming choked in her throat when a body fell into the pool, splashing her.
She recognised one of her uncles, although his face was underwater and it never breathed again.
She saw blood coloring the water, while heavy steps approached her.

She didn't realize that she was crying aloud, that she was attracting the butchers to her.

Sobs shook her, until her body collapse and her mind was swallowed by darkness.

Hello everyone! 🤗

I'm so excited to start this new journey, after being obsessed with 001/Henry Creel from Stranger Things 4 in these last weeks.

Volume 2 is coming out in few days, so I might be updating this story to fix some details, although this is set before what happened in the show.

This story is still a big work in progress, so I don't know where it will go, but I'm pretty happy to explore new ideas.

I'm currently reading "Suspicious Minds" to get more details about Hawkins Lab and how life was in there.

So yeah, let's see where this goes 🕷🕷🕷
