"when are you leaving for training camp man?" steven asked conrad

"i'm not gonna change my mind" conrad spoke "i was just gonna sit on the bench all season anyways"
"well if your not playing football anymore, what are you gonna do all summer?" my mom asked him
"dude you can work at the club , with me and jere" steven told him
he shook his head with a smile " i'm not gonna work at the club"
"you guys are working this summer?" belly asked steven and jere
"yeah i'm lifeguarding" jere spoke first "and stevens working at the snack shop"
belly then turned to me "are you working" i shook my head and said 'no'
"oh belly, penny i almost forgot, i have a surprise for y'all two" susannah handed us envelopes
"so this is why you had to stop by the country club" our mom asked susannah
"what is that?" steven asked the both of us
"i wrangled belly and penny an invitation to a be a debutante" susannah smiled at us
"is that the thing where the girls where white dresses and curtsy?" belly asked
i leaned my elbows on the table and listened to susannah speak
"it's when a girl comes of age and is presented to society, i know it sounds silly but i swear it's fun. girls come from all new england to cousins just to be apart of it" i saw my mom down her wine "y'all will make so many new friends"
"i cannot believe you are still holding on to this archaic dream" my mom got up to refill her drink
"no it used to be about finding a husband but now its about networking. they teach you leadership skills, like hot to market yourself and it benefits charity, like a bat mitzvah"
mom walked in the room with a wine bottle in her hand while laughing "it's not like a nat mitzvah, there is nothing religious about a debutante ball"
"the whole deb scene is bullshit, it's for sheep" conrad said
"no it's not, it's when a girl has a coming out. it's a formal recognition she's reached maturity" susannah said
"i'm sorry, mature? i mean yeah penny she's almost an adult but belly? a couple months ago you had a cat funeral, you made us all wear black" steven said
"shut up steven, i saw you and penny crying in y'all room" belly said
"when did i get brought into this, and yeah it was sad" i laughed
"wait mochi died, i'm sorry bells" jere told her
"penny" i looked at susannah "i know you like to get all dressed up, your mom told me that you broke up with your boyfriend because of his style"
"you've had a boyfriend?" jere asked me and i nodded
"yeah, i watched her break up with him, and his style was just like mine" steven said making us all laugh "i dont get why y'all are all laughing
"you know i'll do suzzie" i smiled at her
jere kicked my leg under the table and gave me a 'really' face, i nodded and turned my attention back to the others
"belly, don't you wanna get all dressed up?" susannah asked
"it's just not belly's kind of thing, she's our ferrell littler alley cat" mom said making all of the kids laugh, except belly
belly looked at the paper then to susannah "i'll think about it" she told her

"same idea?" i asked belly when i went into her room and saw her in a pink dress "woah you look good" i tell her
"no you do, jere is gonna have the hots for you" she told me
"the hots?" i asked her
"i heard it in a movie" she told me "let's go sneak out" she grabbed my hand
