Chapter One

Here it is. First day of Senior Year. Although I had imagined it a little different, with my friends, people I know, going to our local milk bar after school and discussing how hard we are planning to study for the big exams, thats how it was then. But now I'm here, in Easthurst. I never heard much about Easthurst, I don't know if it is because it was not close to my home town or that I never cared enough to look up top 10 worst suburbs. I am walking through these halls, these big stupid halls that never seem to end. My thoughts drown out the sound of kids bashing their lockers open and senior boys talking about the amount of "smashes" they got in the summer. I somehow avoid people noticing me, I liked it this way. I could hide behind all the nonsense of school kids without seeming like a total loser, at least I thought that.

I walk into a classroom, but it is full, I look at the room number and realise I had entered the wrong class, I know. This is possibly the most publicly humiliating thing that can ever happen to someone on their first day. I decide against asking the teacher where my actual classroom is located and make my way down to the office. School offices bring comfort to me, the quietness, the fact that there are not 20 heads staring at you in pure judgement. I arrive at the office, when I see a boy with shaggy brown hair, tall, sporty stature, I could tell he had just been in a brawl or something because he had a black eye. Its first period, you have to be a different kind of mad to want to be in a fight this early in the morning. He is bad news.

"Miss?" I hear a kind voice from inside the office.

I realise I have been standing here staring at this boy for around 10 seconds, completely making a fool of myself. "Yes, sorry... I was just wondering where room 27C is?"

She replies quickly. "Yes dear, So you go up the stairs to the left and-"

"-Are you that pathetic? There are numbers on each door." The boy cuts the office lady off.

I stare at him

I stare at him. He is quite confident, cocky. I scoff at him. "Thanks." I say looking at the office lady politely as if she was the only one who spoke.

"You are welcome." He answers to me uninvited. He smirks as if he said something funny. It's not. I walk out of the room hoping to never see him again. It's my first day and the first person I speak to is a complete and utter asshole. I walk into my class and think about how I wish I was back home. But here I am in Senior English at Easthurst High. I have always been academically gifted within English, nothing in this class could mess me up.

"Xander? Are you alright? What happened?" The boy from the office walked in.

Except that.
