Kind Girl x Stray Neko Reader Part 2 (Building Trust)

     You've been staying with Charlie for a couple of days now. She's been taking good care of you. You're still very cautious however. After all, this is almost exactly how it started in your last home. She's nice now, but you know that at any minute history could repeat itself and you could be back outside, barely hanging onto life.
     She hasn't touched you since that first hug the day she brought you in. You still flinch when she gets too close without warning and she still gives you space whenever you do. Why is that? Every bone in your body says she's going to eventually turn on you, but there's something there that your last family just didn't have.

Charlie: Y/N?

     You lurch out of thought. You're curled up in a tiny ball at the end of Charlie's couch. At her words, you jump a little and unravel yourself.

Y/N: H-huh!! Oh... um.. yeah?

     Charlie sits next to you, careful to give you enough space.

Charlie: I was just thinking.. You've been here for a bit... would you mind telling me exactly how you ended up out there in the first place?

     You adopt a nervous expression.

Charlie: I-it's ok if not! I just thought that maybe if I knew everything you went through, I could help?
Y/N: I... used to have a good home. They were great, but things went downhill. After a while, they cared for me less and less. Eventually, it turned into.. hurting... a bit after all that, they kicked me out.
Charlie: ... Did they ever let you eat at the table?
Y/N: No..
Charlie: Did you have your own room?
Y/N: ... No..
Charlie: ... It sounds to me like.. like they were treating you as a pet.
Y/N: ...
Charlie: Y/N... You aren't an animal. You don't deserve to be treated like one.
Y/N: .......
Charlie: .. Do you want a hug?

     You nod. Charlie pulls you into a tight embrace and you start to cry into her shoulder. You didn't mean to, but once you started you couldn't stop. Charlie held you through it all.
     When you eventually stopped crying, you slowly let her go. You were still leaning against her, however.

Charlie: Tell you what. I'll make some food, and we can cuddle here and watch a movie or something. Does that sound good.
Y/N: Y-yeah... I think I would like that...

     Charlie gets up to cook and you start to think again. You know what's different about Charlie now. She treats you like a person. She doesn't just play with you, give you treats, and be done with it. She actually cares about how you feel.
     With this realization, most of your worries start to melt away. You trust her. As much as you can right now anyway. After all, trauma doesn't just disappear overnight.
     Charlie comes back with some food and you cuddle up next to her to eat it while she turns something on to watch. She feels so warm...
     You barely have time to finish your meal before you fall asleep in Charlie's arms.
