love me, love me not

The flower petals fall from her fingers

Drifting down slowly to touch the thin grass beneath her broken form

"Do you love me?"

It comes out in a whisper, nearly mistaken as the wind

Blowing the flowers that she hasn't yet touched

Hasn't yet tainted

"Yes, I do."

Tears fall from her burning cheeks

Racing to soak the paper below

"Do you love me?"

It comes out as a choke, a tangled and messy voice

The paper stares up at her, raw and real

Every mistake, every flaw, that she tries so hard to conceal

"I can, if you let me."

Shoes bounce rapidly on her anxious feet

Clicking against the floor, nearly as loud as her thoughts

"Do you love me?"

It comes out as a plea, terrified of what comes next

She tries to predict the future

Her shaking hands wrap around an empty glass ball

"I'm the only one that can."

She raises a deteriorating hand

Lets it gently connect with the traitorous glass

"Do you love me?"

It comes out defeated, accepting her fate

To her

That silver mirror means everything

"I will. I'll fix everything."

There's a beauty in the rise and fall

There's a mystery to the voice behind her thoughts

It's all fun and games until they're digging graves

Love me, love me not

If you promise to help me

I promise to appease you

Hold me on the tightrope

Let me fall to the ground and stop the show

I beg you to stay even as I reach the end

Every time I try to leave, I come back distraught and aching

Break my body

Slow my heart

Show my bones

Love me, love me not

I know it's not smart

I know I've messed up

But I let my delicate flower petals drop

Falling fast and hard

For everyone who loves me

Who loves me not.
