Prologue

Gracie and Sara Hopper were inseparable. To them life was an adventure. Everything they did made their parents proud.

It was the picture perfect family. That was until the younger daughter, Sara had gotten sick. Gracie was by her side the whole time. Up until the end. She cried and cried, it never stopping.

She had lost her best friend to something she wasn't even aware of. Grief didn't just stop at her though. Her parents emotional states were absolutely wrecked. Her mother was full of hatred and it was aimed at her father. She left and he moved, taking Gracie with him since her mother was no longer capable of caring for her after the loss of Sara. In a way she also blamed Gracie and Gracie gained survivor's guilt.

Moving from New york to Hawkins Indiana Gracie was only 12 and she was depressed. Her dad started drinking and smoking, not fully caring for Gracie at a time of need. Now at the age of 16 she has learned to accept the past and has made sure to carry on what Sara would have wanted for her.
