the drag show

Glitter covers the floor of the bathrooms
The hallways
The dining hall
And the stage
Some even ended up near the kitchen
At the very back of the building

Chunky golden flakes
Shimmering against the florescent lighting
As one walks down the empty halls

The walls still echo
With classic gay anthems
Of individuality
And being who you are
Love is love
Laughter can still be heard
Bouncing through the auditorium
The clinking of glasses
From sweet red wine
And citrus beer
And cute cocktails with fruit in them

The dressing rooms hold remnants
Of deep green beads from a broken necklace
Minutes from showtime
A lost makeup brush
With glittering red eyeshadow in its bristles
Rings from the bottom of drinks
Staining the same table the queens and kings did their makeup on

But that was yesterday
Today
Glitter covers the floor
From one end of the building to the other
And the silence reminds us
That happiness that happens in a night
Can vanish by morning
But will not be taken from our memories
