Come Saturday, around seven in the afternoon, and Heeseung was anxiously pacing in front of Sunghoon’s dorm’s door. He knew it wasn’t actually a date, but he had convinced himself he had to treat it like one. He had to, or it’d be just them hanging out as friends. Even if he couldn’t remember the last time the both of them had hung out alone, he was sure it had happened at least once.

And so, if it were a date, it would be normal for him to be nervous. He’d changed his outfit five times before Jay had intervened and chose for him. Now, he just had to knock, or text Sunghoon, so the other would come out. But for some reason he couldn’t, he was petrified and it made no sense. It was just Sunghoon, sure he was half in love with him, but this was a fake date he would treat like a real date. But it wasn’t one.

It wasn’t one, so he had to calm down or Sunghoon would definitely know Heeseung was treating the date as a real one. He brought flowers, so maybe that would give him away. Maybe he shouldn’t have, the flowers had probably been a bad idea.

The door opened just a little bit, Heeseung jumped backwards reflexively, “Hyung… are you done being nervous? Sunghoon-hyung’s been ready for like ten minutes now,” Jungwon poked his head out looking over at how tense Heeseung seemed to be.

“I- I’m not nervous…” He closed his eyes knowing he was not convincing at all; he was glad Jungwon only looked at him like he was tired but didn’t comment on it. “Just tell him to come out…” He sighed covering his face.

Heeseung looked up again when he heard the door opening again.

“Are those for me?” Sunghoon asked a little surprised while looking at the flowers. Heeseung nodded and was about to make up some excuse, but Sunghoon just took the flowers from him, “Thank you, they’re very pretty.”

“Not as pretty as you,” Heeseung murmured as Sunghoon opened the door again to leave the flowers in his dorm.

“What did you say?” Heeseung blushed, shocking his head.

“Nothing,” he fidgeted with his hands before offering one to Sunghoon, “shall we go?” Almost without hesitation, Sunghoon grabbed Heeseung’s hand.

They talked on their way to the restaurant, a small place that felt quite cosy, both of them a lot more relaxed than they had been the previous night. It might have been the atmosphere or the fact that they had actually planned this date, but something just felt lighter between them.

Dinner went by smoothly, they laughed and talked, they enjoyed their time together. At some point Heeseung had held Sunghoon’s hand on top of the table, and he could swear he saw a light pink creep on Sunghoon’s cheeks. Sunghoon didn’t pull away, so Heeseung wasn’t about to say anything. They were friends, so the conversation flowed easily and the quiet moments didn’t feel awkward, not like it had the previous night.

If this was something Sunghoon wanted, Heeseung would take him in as many dates as he could before the wedding. Heeseung didn’t care they were just kind of dates, that they were just to get used to being together. Maybe he could win Sunghoon over with a couple of dates, show him he was a good enough alpha to date. To actually be with.

After they had desert things turned a little weird. Not uncomfortable, just strange. Sunghoon seemed to be fidgeting a lot, and Heeseung caught him trying to say something but then stopping. He didn’t know what was going on, but Heeseung was starting to get nervous. Maybe the flowers really had been too much and Sunghoon had caught on to his feelings a lot faster than Heeseung had intended. Maybe holding his hand had been a mistake and he’d made Sunghoon uncomfortable. Maybe Sunghoon wanted to back down from their deal and didn’t know how to say it.
