I awake to a surge of noises, gasping and raspily catching my breath as I am awoken by loud, agressive voices. I blearily take a look around, feeling my head pound against my skull and not long after, a sear of pain in my stomach. Heaving myself off the bed, I stumble over to the noises. Was it danger? God I hope it wasn't danger. Using the wall as an aid, I reach the room Alby was being kept in. And in just enough time, I get to see the new girl fly into the air, stabbing some sort of syringe into his chest. I wince at the brash movement.
Everyone stood around Alby, panting heavily at his sudden outburst.
"What the shuck was that?" I say weakly.
Newt turns to me for only a second before returning to the group, announcing;
"Ok from now on someone stays here and watches him around the clock." His gaze returns to me "preferably someone who can walk properly.""Fine by me" I respond.
The group's focus shifted when a new source of light entered the room. Gally stands there, a lit torch in hand.
He gives eye contact to each member of the group before his eyes land on Thomas.
"Hey" he pauses "Sun down Greenie, time to go."
He gestures for Thomas to leave with him before he reluctantly follows. They leave the shack together and Thomas is taken to the pit.For the entire time, for some reason, I just couldn't seem to take my eyes off Alby. Just the way he was grunting smally, huffing in his sleep, it... to be honest it scared me. Why was this happening now?
I feel Newt's hands press softly again my arms, he brings me back from the horrible thoughts and I look at him.
"Come on Al" he says gently, directing my form back into the room I came from.
"Let's go."He sits me down on the bed, manoeuvring my arms to then help pull my shirt over my head gently, placing it aside.
I chuckle, "bet you always wanted to undress me."
Newt gives me a disappointing look as he turns away, preparing supplies ready to change my bandage.
"Aww come on" I smile, "I thought you liked it when I say things like that." I chuckle cynically.
Newt returns from the side of the room, placing him self between my legs and sighing, resting each hand on either thigh.
I look at him lovingly. He is unhappy with me. Nothing has changed."I know you like to act tough, and pretend you are ok with everything that has happened but you could've gotten killed, you did get seriously hurt. It's almost like..." Newt pauses for a second, avoiding my eyes and placing them to the ground. I lower my head, attempting to catch his gaze.
"Like what?" I ask.
He lifts his head again, sighing again and straightening up.
"It's almost like you don't care about what happens to you anymore." It felt hard for him to say something like that about one of the only people he truly cares about. Because what if it was true? How would he cope with such knowledge? He doesn't understand why he doesn't talk about this stuff.
"What do you mean? Of course I care." I answer.
"Do you?" He asks softly. "Because I don't feel you do."
What he was saying shocked me. It was like he had no faith in me.
"Newt? Jesus do you really think I- this was an accident, a stupid mishap." I try and convince him away from the idea. I had no idea which one of us was right. I didn't really want to know. I think, if I sought out the answer, I'd find something I didn't like.
"It's not just this one." He murmurs.
"What?"
"I said it's not just this incident." He raised his voice, it almost felt as if he was annoyed at me. "It has been event after event I-" he scoffs, shaking his head as if he was trying to align how to say it aloud.
