•The Way The Hood Loves You•

the way the hood loves u
can be a back and forth game
it loves u so much, it connects u with a different family member every time u walk out the door
but not enough to say thank u for "not snitching"
u just get years of your life taken away from u being in jail
no matter your story, or the path u were headed towards
the hood stays in the same generational cycle
bc of the same line
"i'm no snitch"
well congratulations, u just lost 5 to 20 years off your life
wanna keep going ?
the hood loves u so much, the person u called your "homeboy"
was the same person to get u caught
he made sure u were in the right place to be red handed
here u are now, in the questioning room
detectives come in and out trying to get the real story
where the drugs came from
but they never will
because "u ain't no snitch"
that line is self incriminating
whoever made it, knew what they were doing
it makes young black boys lose their life
because they feel like they have to hold the hood down
the same hood that birthed the boy that sent u to jail
an innocent black boy with a dream
now, you're a future convict
u shouldn't be protecting the hood
the hood should be protecting u
because it's your birthright
it's the place that should have
taught u everything u needed to be taught
all the things school couldn't teach u
u are protecting a place that doesn't give a damn about u
or ya son
or ya son's son
it just sends u back to jail
a place too many black boys and men see too often
i appreciate all the hood has down for me
but it doesn't match with the things that were held against me
the way the hood loves u
can be a very selfish thing

*Not every hood is the same and I know that but from what I've experienced and seen in my life, there has been infinite events of generational trauma passed down to the black family. I wanted to express the other part of life that isn't so pretty. The part of life that people get killed over. It's a subject matter that needs to be talked about if we want to put a stop to it. No more black and brown boys need to get killed over this. Let's start now. 🤝🏾🙏🏾❤️
