Chapter 3 - Souvenir of My Death

"Keep some souvenirs of your past, or how will you ever prove it wasn't all a dream?"

When our swords clash, they create a sound so loud that all the other sounds around just go quite. I don't hear the rustling of leaves, I don't hear hushed voices of birds. All I can now focus on, is the fact that I can't die here, or get injured. Dying on enemy land is not anywhere on my to-do list.

I jump few meters above the ground, and pull my sword parallel to my head and upper body. In that fraction of second, I know I am going to win. He is disturbed. He is still recovering from my instant switch from almost kissing him to now almost killing him. All I have to do is distract him or wound him enough to buy me a few seconds. Once I cross the river, there is no risk.

I attack on his shoulder with my sword and it clashes with it, creating a sound of metal against metal. Shit. He is wearing an armor chest beneath his coat. Is that why he is so calm?
He does nothing that suggests any anger or fury against me. He just looks calmly into my eyes. I step back from him and do nothing, I too pause just like him. His wounded friend from behind shouts "What are you even doing Izzy? Kill that blood agent." Izzy? Is that his name? Agent? This idiot thinks I was spying while sleeping in the forest ? . Izzy raises his sword and I get ready for any move that he makes. But to my surprise, he lowers his sword and in a fraction second I feel cold metal against my shin. He drags his sword slowly over the cloth of my gown and tears it without hurting my tan leg.

His voice is as smooth as silk and as calm as his posture, when he says, "You have beautiful legs, use them to run off from my territory before I slice your body into two and serve it to the wolves in the woods. "

How dare he? I know I am in his territory but he doesn't get to firstly stay calm during the whole fight, and then throw some dialogue like that.

Just to get back at him, I place my sword on his forearm and drag it slowly, his blood oozes out.
"Leaving a mark on you as a souvenir. Cherish it, Izzy." I say his name in a mocking manner.

He does not give two hoots to the wound on his arm and laughs behind his mask.
Yes, HE LAUGHS. In a life and death situation like this, HE LAUGHS. Idiot Izzy.

I turn around and swiftly run. The water in the river is cold, but not as cold as his presence. His scent, his voice, his laugh, his everything is suffocating.  I cross the river and turn around to see if he is there or not. To my utter surprise he is. He walks a little closer to the river. And I think that maybe he plans to come here and kill me on my ground. He does not.  Even with a distance of at least 15 Feet between us, I feel his suffocating presence. I look into his eyes, but they are looking down to my right hand. I too look down at my right hand and see his sword in my hand. Shit. Throughout I thought this is my sword. Our swords are the same weight and almost the same shape.

He says , "Return my sword, Thief", and again laughs.
Is he crazy? Is he a crackhead? What does he find funny in me stealing his sword?

I say, "If you really want it, come and get it."

"Giving you my sword as a souvenir. Cherish it, RedHead" he says, and turns around and disappears in the forest before I could reply something.
I hear his friend saying "Are you drunk or are you just being your usual stupid self?"

I walk back slowly to the place where Marquis is grazing.

"Hey Marquis."

He 'neighhhs' in response. I jump back on his back securing Izzy's sword on my back.

"Come on, lets go home, I have a souvenir to adore."
