Tengen's POV: the day of the festival

This is my last chance. I have no idea where (y/n) might be. In the past year I've been in countless towns and villages in hope of finding her, but she was nowhere to be seen. Nobody saw her. There was no trace of her anywhere. I didn't know where she could possibly go and disappear into thin air just like that.

Then suddenly a thought ran through my mind. The yearly festival. She once told me she performs every year. What if she would go there for this certain day to perform on stage? Even if she didn't, she might visit the festival. That's why this is my last chance.

I just arrived back from a mission and I'm exhausted. I feel like I might collapse in any second but I cannot let this chance slip. I must go to her village before it was too late.

Without caring about the scratches I got during my previous mission, I rose to my feet and left my home, going straight to (y/n)'s village. The way there was something I was familiar with. I ran down this exact same path several times in the last period of time. Once I even carried her in my arms, going the opposite way. It was as if it was yesterday.

Sweet memories... One of the most precious ones was when I first brought her to my place. That one week with her alone... I wished I could just go back in time to experience it again, so she would be between my arms again.

If I was faster, I could have reached her at Kocho's place, but I was too late. It's been 1 year since that happened, yet I still blamed myself for not reaching her in time. I regret that I didn't go back to her earlier. Maybe if I did, all of this wouldn't have happened. I would have already married her and she would be with me every day.

After a few hours of running, I spotted her village in the distance. The sun was going down, painting the skies in a beautiful orange colour. There was my chance, so I hurried into the village, following the crowd and the colorful lights, soon reaching the square whereas they held this yearly occassion.

I stopped in the middle and took a look around, searching for her figure. I was sure she was here too. Or rather, I wanted to believe she was. Where else she would be?

To my advantage I was tall and I could easily search through the crowd. Then suddenly I spotted her. The same height, the same hair color. It must be her, so I didn't hesitate to hurry after her.

"(Y/n)." I called out to her, hope rising within me, but to my dismay when she turned around it wasn't her. It was someone else I have never seen before. A complete stranger who looked similar to (y/n).

"Do I know you?" The stranger asked.

"Sorry..." I said and left to coninue searching. What just happened now, it happened a couple of times. I mistaken other women for her. Whenever I thought I finally found her my heart was racing, but that small spark of hope disappeared the moment the women turned around to face me.

She was nowhere to be seen and I've been searching for hours but to no avail. I couldn't find her. It was painful to realize that she didn't come here as I expected.

I give up...

Without thinking I was heading to the nearest booth whereas they sold drinks and drank a few rounds of alcohol. Enough to forget why I came here in the first place. Though that didn't work because despite being drunk, all I could think about was (y/n) and my desperation to search for her.

Chugging down the booze I slammed the cup down on the counter and stood up, stumbling my way through the crowd. I was seeing blurry and I couldn't walk properly.

Then by some miracle I saw her figure in the distance. I finally saw (y/n) and I had no doubt because she was facing me. Her hair was a bit shorter, but it was her, so I made my way through the people and approached her.
