~Judy's POV~
This is our last fighting chance.
The cotton sheets draped over me feel heavier than usual. I stir, turning over to the other end of my pillow, feeling the sun beam on my closed eyes. I keep them shut. My mind is buzzing, from a thousand thoughts flooding in. I found it hard to sleep last night. What if she suspects that the request is about us? What if she turns us in to the police? I shut my eyes tighter, gripping the sheets. My nerves are getting the best of me, killing how determined I was yesterday. Maybe that's why I refuse to open my eyes...because if I do, I'd have no choice but to accept that today has arrived, and face whatever will come from it.
"Well, this is a refreshing change... I'm up before the morning person! It must be snowing in Sahara Square." Nick pokes me, making me clutch the sheets even more.
"Har, har." I respond, muffled underneath the covers.
All of a sudden, a strong tug yanks the sheets off of me, exposing me to the outer air. I shiver.
"You got a fever or something?" He asks. I respond with more silence.
"Look...whatever happens, at least we gave it our best shot, right?" Nick says.
I finally crack open one of my eyes, and see a blurry vision of Nick standing at the foot of our bed giving me a weak smile. I take a deep breath and nod, before getting off of the mattress.
"That's my bunny."
I tried my best to pick out a sophisticated outfit that looked classy, but not like I'm trying too hard. When done, I meet with Nick, who's eating breakfast in the kitchen. Five whole minutes pass by until I find myself making laps around the room again.
"Do I say it with a serious yet compassionate expression? Or a more light-hearted tone but in a straightforward manner? And shall I slip it in right at the end or present it like a pitch meeting? She seems pretty polite and patient so she must be okay with-"
"Please, Carrots, I beg! I'm going dizzy watching you go round and round, my eyes can't keep up." He whines from the table. "And all this stressed out, negative energy is making my croissant turn stale."
"Nick," I begin with paws on my hips, "the reason you have a stale croissant is because you forgot to throw them out last week, after I told you they were past their expiration date."
"...oh." He said, proceeding to take another bite out of it.
"And how are you so calm anyway?"
He stares at me. "One of us has to be."
I take a few deep breaths. Nick is right. This isn't the ultimatum, Judy. We'll take whatever hits they throw at us. Worrying doesn't solve anything.
I slowly sit down with Nick and drink some coffee that I've left to brew for way too long, then take out another croissant from the packet. I knocked it against the table, it was rock hard. "Well, let's hope she has food there cause there's no way I'm eating this for breakfast." I say.
"We can look at the positives; we've been needing a new door stopper."
After 'breakfast', I grabbed my phone and put in the location that Victoria had emailed me into Zoogle Maps. Surprisingly, she lived quite out of the way, in the more quieter, outer parts of the city. Luckily, a bus route will take us straight there.
"This shirt feels so stiff. And it really doesn't go with my indigo tie..." Nick says, tugging at his white collar as we sit on the moving bus. "I don't see why I couldn't have worn one of my Hawaiian prints."
"At least you look smart," I say. "And trust me, Nick, if it wasn't going to be our controversial request that would get us kicked out of her house, it would have been that Hawaiian shirt instead."
