Nonfiction

Sasquatch: True Life Encounters with Legendary Ape Men by Rupert Matthews

The title kind of speaks for itself. A good resource and an interesting read. I found it helpful before going to fight them. - Alpha Cole Barlow

Fighting the Flying Circus by Eddie Rickenbacker

Go back to the days of World War I when the author faced off against the Germans in biplanes. A great first-person account of his aerial feats and achievements. - Alpha Mason Price

Manga

Fruits Basket by Natsuki Takaya

A lonely girl gets mixed up with the Sohma family, who are cursed with animal spirits from the Chinese zodiac. Excellent artwork and lots of plot twists to keep you guessing, plus a lovely little romance. - Gamma Adam Bishop

My Love Story by Kazune Kawahara

An unlikely romance between two physically opposite people. Sweet and full of fluff. Takeo reminds me of Beta Emerson! - Beta Crew Myers

Action/Adventure

Eaters of the Dead by Michael Crichton

Hollywood made this into the movie, The Thirteenth Warrior, which wasn't bad, but the book is way better! Go back in time to Viking days and take on a cult of cannibals in this thriller! - Nathan Barlow (Dad)

Hatchet by Gary Paulsen

A young adult classic, this book tells the story of Brian, who is the sole survivor when his plane crashes in the wilds of Canada. He has only a hatchet to help him survive alone until rescuers arrive, but will he be successful? - Angelo del Vecchio

Science fiction

Classic:

The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury

The gorgeous writing is the highlight of this book, which features a collection of short stories woven together to tell the tale of how humans colonize Mars, which is already inhabited when they arrive. - Alpha Jayden Carson

Modern:

The Lux series by Jennifer Armentrout

The cute, fiesty main character learns the truth about - and develops feelings for - the boy next door, but things get complicated when the government gets involved. Then falling in love becomes fighting to survive. - Beta Tyler James

Ready Player One by Ernest Cline

Lots of 1980s references, which did my heart good and brought back a lot of memories. I especially loved how the main character outsmarted the bad guys at the end. Read the book and skip that awful movie version.  - Royal Price (Papa)

Romance

The Hurricane series by RJ Prescott (Book one - The Hurricane)

A rough-around-the-edges Irish boxer falls for the broken beauty too scared to live while the boxer's grandfatherly manager tries to take him to greatness in the ring. - Genevieve "Evie" Black-Barlow (Mom)

Mark of the Least series by Kendra Merritt

Each book in this series has a fairy tale setting, plot, and theme, but the main characters have some kind of disability. Lots of twists and turns I didn't expect in the first one I read, Catching Cinders. You can read them in any order. Brilliant dialogue and gorgeous descriptions, but have a tissue box handy! - Julia Price (Mama)

Fantasy

Classic

Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones

This was one of the few books that I actually read the whole thing. It doesn't fall victim to politics like the animated movie version does, and you get a much richer world. Seeing Wizard Howl's "other" life in London was fascinating, and the ending was much more satisfying than the movie. - Alpha Ash Mitchell

The Discworld series by Terry Pratchett

Try starting with Guards! Guards! and meet one of my most favorite characters of all time: His Grace, The First Duke of Ankh, Commander Sir Samuel "Sam" Vimes! Funny with that dry British wit, this series will always be in my top ten. Some of the books can be read as stand alones, such as Going Postal, which is one of the funniest in the series. - Alpha Jayden Carson

Modern:

Tales of Beauty and Madness series by Lili St. Crow

Each one of these three books retells a fairy tale. The first one, Nameless, is my favorite. I like the main character a lot, although she didn't listen when I screamed at her not to go down in the dark, scary tunnel! Anyway, I could really relate to a lot of what the three friends go through before they find their happily ever afters. - Peri Barlow James

Strange Angels series by Lili St. Crow

Dru Anderson is one tough cookie. Suddenly on her own at sixteen and chased by things that shouldn't exist, she finds herself on the hit list of the biggest baddie of all, and in the middle of a war between vampires and werewolves. - Peri Barlow James

The Watcher series by Lillith Saintcrow

In this rich world, witches of the light (aka Lightbringers) are guarded by watchers, men who had a piece of the dark put inside their souls because only the dark can truly understand the dark to fight it. Unfortunately, that takes a toll on a man, and it's up to his witch to save him while he thinks he's saving her. - Peri Barlow James
