I became a university student and studied in a Catholic theology department. I remained away from the Church and was not baptised. Although I was vaguely interested in the humanities, it was more at my mother's urging than my active choice. When I decided to study theology and began reading the Bible again, one thing interested me. In the New Testament, there is a book like a biography of Christ called the 'Gospels'. The disciples of Christ described there seemed weak and vulnerable, easily betraying Jesus. However, the disciples recorded in the 'Acts of the Apostles', a record of the early church immediately after Christ's death, seemed very powerful. I wondered what their change might have been due to.

Most of the teachers in the theology department were priests. Some of the students were seminary students and sisters belonging to religious orders. At the time, however, I did not pay much attention to this particular environment.
