Chronology : Extended version of that scene in episode 2x02 where Daniel checks on Robby
Headcanon : Autistic!RobbyRobby had resigned himself to a bowl of cereal and tap water when the knock at the door got his attention. He was a little confused, half expecting it to be a bill collector or someone coming to kick him out when he answered, only to find...
"Hey, Robby"
Mr. LaRusso?
"Hey" Robby responded in confusion before unlocking and opening the door- It was the least he could do. "Mr. LaRusso, what are you doing here?" he asked, willing himself not to think too hard about how his sensei briefly examined the dark room behind him.
"Well, I could lie and say I was in the neighborhood" Daniel replied awkwardly before cautiously pressing forward. "Is your... Mom home?"
He knew by the way that the teen went quiet and averted his gaze that Sam had been correct. "Hey, listen" he started again in a more gentle tone, stepping forward to place a hand on Robby's shoulder. It was in that moment that he really took in just how young Robby was. Sure, he wasn't a little kid, but he wasn't an adult either, and he certainly shouldn't have been living completely by himself with no electricity or money because his mom ran off with some guy. "It's alright, okay?"
Robby looked up at him, glancing around a bit before forcing himself to make eye contact and showing a small flicker of a smile. Daniel felt even worse for the kid at that- He knew Robby had a hard time with that sort of thing, but he never thought much as to why he tried so constantly to mask his quirks. He'd always written it off as just wanting to fit in better, but now... Well, now he didn't know what to think.
"I don't know what to do" Robby said after a moment of silence, averting his eyes to instead just look straight past the older man. Eye contact was already hard enough when he didn't feel vulnerable. "I mean, I can take care of myself just fine" he quickly continued, afraid that Daniel might interrupt him. "But... I don't have money for food, the electricity's out, I can't-"
"Hey, hey" Daniel cut him off soothingly, seeing that the boy was just getting more distressed. "It's okay. You don't have to justify anything to me, alright? I know enough" he assured, glad as the blonde visibly relaxed a bit at that. "Look, we'll talk more about long-term solutions later but for now, I'm taking you home, okay?" A nod. "I'll give you some proper dinner"
"Pops"
"What?" the sensei asked, confused.
"I was going to eat Pops" Robby clarified, glancing up at Daniel. "The cereal" he added, seeing that he was still a bit confused. "There's no milk left, so I just put water in it, but..."
"Yeah, we'll get you some of those" Daniel agreed with a nod. "I can stop at the convenience store on the way back, yeah? You'll have it with milk"
"Thank you, Mr. LaRusso"
"Anytime, kid" the sensei replied with a warm smile before gesturing for Robby to leave with him. "Let's go"
