╭┈──── ◌ೄ◌ྀ ˊˎ "HAVE YOU CLEANED OUT THE chicken pen?” Elijah asked his sister as she busied herself with breakfast; one slice of bread, milk and oats. Audrey placed his food down in front of him, standing in front of the table with her hands behind her back, awaiting further orders.

“Yes, brother,” she responded idly.

“Audrey,” Elijah growled as he held his bread in his hands, not even looking up at the girl, his lip curling in disdain. “Do not address me so… casually. Address me as I have taught you.”

Ashley gritted her teeth, swallowing a lump in her throat before answering. “Yes, sir.”

“Good,” Elijah nodded, starting to eat his breakfast in a way he would beat Audrey for doing. Crumbs flew across the table, onto the floor, and she knew she was going to have to clean that up later. “Have you swept?”

“Yes, sir.”

“Have you prepared for lunch at noon?”

“Yes, sir.”

“You know Solomon is coming, yes?”

“I do, sir.”

Elijah sighed heavily, throwing his slice of bread back onto his plate, only half-eaten, and then took one sip of his milk before pushing himself off his seat. “Have you put the clothes up to dry?”
