You once told me you loved riddles.
The crisp symmetry of the words,
The hollowed space left for your answer,
Logical, reasonable, tangible.
An answer you'd do anything to find.

Yes. You enjoy the chase, the brain teasing
symphony it sets alight within you.
you claim that all you need
is an hour
alone
with it
to solve any riddle
put together any puzzle
unravel any trick

Well, if you love brain teasers so much
how about you riddle me this?
what has been kept, reluctantly given,
crushed, attacked, broken
and yet remains unblemished to the eye?

what has so violently been stolen,
so easily released,
been bruised and battered,
And yet there is not one scar in sight?

what will be gravely unwelcomed,
made spectacle if known, if realized that
it has no claim upon its thief?
what would happen if the knowledge was exposed
To a thousand scandalized eyes.
waiting to witness a fall from grace?

Do you still not know the answer?
Oh my love, then you never will.
