(Y/N) - Your Name
(F/F) - Favorite Fruit
A quick straightforward story for this Ursa Therian's Summon Day, 'cause why not?
"Don't worry Senpai! I got everything under control!" I just HAD to say that...
You were frantically running back and forth from the fields to the greenhouse, with delicate potted plants in your grasp each trip. Volos, your upperclassman, asked a favor of you to maintain his crops on campus and water his dorm plants while he went to a collided mountain for a few days. It was that that time of the season for him to check up on an endangered plant species he's been nurturing that can only grow under very strict conditions. He gave you the keys to his dorm room and the greenhouse and allowed you to sleepover in his room since you would commute to campus everyday.
*thunder crackling in the sky*
"Damn, I shouldn't have taken a nap after pulling an all nighter. It was such a clear sunny day earlier this morning, so why does a thunderstorm decide to show up now?!" You whined.
*thunderbolt flashes, striking a cell tower*
"AHHHHH!!!" You screeched and sprinted right back into the greenhouse.
After being a comatose victim from being struck by lightning, you feared being outside during storms. Normally, you could deal with them by just staying indoors and listening to music to drown out the noise. But now, not wanting to disappoint Volos, you needed to save as many plants as possible under the tempest. You've reinforced all the supporting rods for the rooted crops and boarded up the thick glass panes of the greenhouse. Any potted plants and ripe crops had to be picked and relocated indoors.
"Whew! One more round of crop picking and I can stay in the dorms for the rest of the day." Determined to finish as quickly as possible, you ran to the (F/F) fields and plucked all the ripened fruits you saw and putting them in a wicker basket.
*lightning strikes somewhere behind you*
"HAH!!! Oh, thankfully I was in the (F/F) fields."
With the howling winds deafening your ears, you didn't notice one of the support beams from the cherry tomatoes fields got hit. Because of how fast they grew, the tomato plants were the closest to the greenhouse. You entered the greenhouse to store the freshly picked (F/F) while the wood pillar cracks with all the wind whipping it back and forth. The oak pillar snaps, crashing towards the entrance of the building as you lock up.
"So far so good, *locks the door, turns around* now time to-"
You were hit in the head, making you fall to the ground with the support beam on top. You felt blood leaking out from your forehead as a bright light shines in your eyes. Before you lost consciousness, you could faintly hear your name being called as heavy footsteps quickly closed in on your location. You closed your eyes, succumbing to the pain and blood loss.
~the next morning~
You wake up in a soft, very comfortable bed, sat up and supported by a mountain of pillows. Hearing a light snore from the edge of the bed, you see the dedicated farmer sleeping next to you on a chair. His face was buried into the covers while holding a roll of bandages and a towel.
"...on't...lea...(Y/N)..." Volos sleepily mutters through the sheets.
Just behind him, you can just manage to see a piece of a strip of a bloody bandage peaking out of the trash bin. You try to get out of the bed, but the slightest movement gave you excruciating pain. You wince, falling right into the cushion of pillows. The sudden shift awakens the Ursa Therian, immediately rising up to reveal the fur around his eyes was damp.
"(Y/N)...? (Y/N)! You're awake!" You can see that his eyes were red. Has he been up all night tending to my wounds? You thought to yourself.
"Volos-senpai, when did you get back?" You weakly asked.
"I tried calling you earlier today, but you never answered. I heard that there was a flash storm warning for the area, so I came back to make sure you were ok when...I saw..." He started to tear up.
"It's not your fault! I was just underprepared and a bit unlucky, that's all." You try to reassure him.
"You wouldn't have been in that situation if I never asked you for this favor. I'm so sorry (Y/N)!" He cries.
"Senpai..." You force yourself to move to his side.
"You shouldn't be moving right now! You need to rest!" The bear carefully puts you back to the bed. You grabbed his arm before he can retreat.
"Look into my eyes..." Volos does so while moving the chair closer to you, "...I was really happy that you trusted me enough to tend to everything while you were gone. Sure, I got beaten up, but you can't expect everything to be under your control. So don't cry, you look much better smiling, geeking out about agriculture." You rested your head on his arm.
"(Y/N)..." Volos wipes the waterworks off of his face. "Thank you." He gently wraps his arm around you.
"Heh heh, this is much more comfortable." Before you could snuggle into the farmer's arm, your stomach grumbles.
"Hmm? I guess no matter the situation, everyone still needs to eat." His deep chuckle reverberates through his arm to your body.
*clears throat* "Well, I've been out for half a day..." You look away in embarrassment.
"I'll get you a little something to eat." He gets up and leaves the bedroom.
"It's fine! I can eat when I get back home!" Although you appreciated Volos helping you out with some food, you don't have the heart to tell him you rather not have another vegetable medley.
"No, no, you need to have something!" He comes back holding a pie dish. "I know it's a bit early for something sweet, but I know you'd love a (F/F) tart." He's right. Your stomach roared when he cut a piece and puts it on a plate. "Now, open wide." He uses a fork to take off a piece of the tart and holds it to your lips.
"I can feed myself Senpai!" You fiercely blushed. You wanted to maintain your pride, but your hunger makes you want to greedily eat the whole dish.
"You can drop the formalities (Y/N)! And besides, I brought this for you as a reward for helping out. Don't be shy." He hovers the forkful of a tart to your lips again. You hesitantly opened your mouth and eat the morsel.
"Mmmmmmfff..." You moaned with the fork still in your mouth.
"I take it you like it? You're making a cute face." Volos grins.
"Come closer for a sec, please?" He obliges and scoots closer to you. You swiftly sit up and give him a peck on the cheek, making him jolt in shock. "Happy birthday, Volos. I'll get you something when I'm better." You shy away into the covers.
"W-Well you could do something for me, instead." He looks towards the ceiling, twiddling his fingers.
"S-Sure. What do you-" Before you could finish, he lifts you up, sits in the bed and sets you on his lap.
"Let's stay like this for a bit and eat." He closes his eyes and blushes.
"Ok, then it's your turn." You lean into him as you hold a forkful of the tart to his face.
"Thanks..." He accepts the food and kisses the top of your head. "Let's grow and photosynthesize together, (Y/N)."
You simply pull on his shining emerald necklace and give him a proper kiss in response. After eating, you two dozed off, snuggled against each other.
