One of the reasons that I didn't believe in mates was because of the fantasy that they were perfect. No one was perfect, no one could be perfect, and I knew that I could never live up to that kind of pressure. How could I expect my mate to? But after three days of making love to, holding, kissing, and being with Elisa. She was perfect. She was beautiful; she had that silly side that I got to explore. She was goofy, she would randomly sing, dance, and talk to the cows or the plants. She laughed often and found joy in everything. She brightened my day when I wake up next to her. She makes the night easier as I held her to sleep. For the three days that she has been with me my bear had been normal. He never paced, he never randomly launched for the surface or roared for no reason. He was a typical normal bear. I thought that it might have been from Elisa. He wanted to see her all the time. Every morning Mellick and Elisa would walk around the farm together. This was the first day since she had come to me on Friday that we didn't spend the day in bed. We made love all of Saturday and Sunday, she didn't go to work today which I was against, but she said she was sore. I knew that it was my fault because I couldn't keep my hands off her, but she wouldn't let me out of her sight. I loved that she wanted me to so much, all I could do was to show her how much I wanted her.
The sun was hot this morning, I had started to fix the hole in the west barn wall. From what Logan had told me the hole was caused by the old bull when he got out of the paddock. Rory had been trying to fix the broken fence when the bull lost it and charged. That old bull had died a few seasons ago. Roy had been so busy with his own work he had forgotten about the hole. My brothers weren't the best farmers, but I couldn't expect them to be. They had gone off and did what they love as did I. Only I love farming while they loved other things.
Suddenly, Elisa's screams rattled the loosen wood palings. A terror I had never felt before rushed through me. I dropped the drill and ran. My bear launched for the surface as I felt my skin ripple, I didn't push him down, keeping him at bay for the moment that I needed him. My mate! My heart was racing as I felt cold. I had not seen the wild animal again, the one I noticed on the hill that night. We had walked through the paddock at night a couple of time and saw nothing. I had not smelt anything, nor had I had any time to let my brothers know.
"Hunter!!" Elisa screamed again as I ran into the barn. Ready to release my bear on to the creature that would touch my mate. Elisa was running towards me, "Massive spider, massive spider, massive spider," she repeated. I thought she was running to me, but she ran right passed me yelling "I ain't going back in there," I started to laugh as she gave me the finger and ran off. I didn't have to push my bear down he settled back down. Calm and relax that our mate safe. Scanning the barn, I saw a large huntsman spider on the pillar. I had no issue with spiders. I picked up the harmless dude and moved him outside. Elisa was using one of the cows as wall, resting her head against its back.
"It's gone," I said.
"Still going back in there" she said. I walked up behind her, wrapping my arms around her, she leaned back against me. Groaning as I kissed her neck. Her mark was a stain on her skin, and I would get annoyed every time I saw it. I kissed it every day, hoping that it would at last fade a little. It was a constant reminder of what my bear could do if I didn't control him. I never filled in that prescription, but I still had it ready for the time that I would need it. I ran my hands over her body, massaging her shoulder and trying to relax her heart, it was racing.
"I didn't know you were so afraid of spiders," I said moving to the side and kissing her neck. She shivered in my arms.
"I can't even look at pictures of them, they freak me out" she said and leaned against me more. I considered picking her up and taking her back to the cabin for some more relaxation of the naked kind when she said, "Who is that?". Looking up, I froze. Just on the other side of the fence was a female. She was tall, lanky, and tanned. Samara was just looking at us. I believed that wild cat from the other night was a shifter. Samara didn't move, she looked at us. Mellick pushed for the surface, but not as hard as he normally did. I thought he would be trying to claw his way out knowing that Samara was here. But I feel like it is more of a protected nudge, trying to tell me to get Elisa out of the way.
