[ Chapter Twenty-Nine ]

Similar Lives In Reality

Klaus circled around the motel room, glancing around. "You managed to find Elijah, solve the case of whatever the demon's name was, not be compelled, solve this case, not get killed in doing so for this. None of this needed to be done with your brothers..." He couldn't possibly be congratulating her.

Preston just grabbed the small dagger in her belt. Klaus sighed, "you and I are very similar in reality." He told her.

A scoff escaped from her lips. "And how is that?"

"Well, to start, we both have family that abandons us, dead mothers, our fathers couldn't care less about us, we're both misunderstood. We both can do dangerous things to survive..." He trailed off.

"Yeah, we both have a complicated family life, dead mothers, daddy issues, survival instincts, so?" She pointed her dagger at him.

"I understand your hatred towards me..." Klaus started.

Preston rose a brow, "since when did this turn into a damn therapy session?" She questioned.

Klaus laughed softly. "You don't want the girl you are in love with to get killed." His tone wasn't mocking. It was... sympathy?

Preston never lowered her dagger. Klaus walked over to her. She figured this was either a good time to ask about Meredith or a good time to die.

"You knew Meredith Carson... How?" She asked.

Klaus looked at her, a small, sad smile on his face. "She was one of the few who had hope for me. She used to trust me. She was rebellious. Then the whole Katerina chase happened, and they being close friends... I lost a friend that day." The way he said friend had an even sadder tone.

"Were you two ever close?" She carefully asked the question. The way he talked about her made her wonder.

He shook his head slowly, "no. Besides, her and Elijah would be much better off together. He's Elijah and Meredith is... Meredith." But part of it sounded bittersweet and it was.

Klaus didn't think one person could pull at what he had for heartstrings. It was true, they were never involved. There was no romance. But when they grew as friends, away from everyone else, there was something special about her. Something other than her being the original heretic, she never cared what others thought. Meredith was kind until you crossed her line.

He wanted that curse lifted. He just hated that he hurt her by going after one necessity that was required.

"Why haven't you stuck that dagger in my chest yet?" Klaus changed the subject rather quickly.

Preston shrugged. "I've done the research, normal wood doesn't do too much. A white oak stake, that's what would get the job done, but erase all you've turned, right?" She really did do her research.

Klaus smirked, "right you are."

"Then again," he looked at her, confused as to why she was saying that, "it's still fun."

Preston walked towards him, playing with the dagger. "Where are my brothers?" Her tone was urgent. Klaus looked at her, confused.

"They abandoned you when-"

"Where are my brothers?" She asked again.

Klaus looked down, "they should be here any moment now... And I do apologise for what I have to do to break the curse." And with that being said in a quiet whisper, he used his vampire speed to leave.

Just like he said, Sam and Dean entered the motel room. "What is it?" Dean questioned.

Preston turned to them, "nothing. It's all good." But was it? The enemy just tried to comfort her and told her how he knew Meredith. Klaus was going to drain Elena of every drop of blood she had in her body.

"My flight's early tomorrow." She wasn't wrong. The flight was leaving at 10 in the morning. But it was also code for I don't wanna go into details, goodnight.
