Chapter Seven
I swallowed the lump in my throat and smiled brightly as he waved me over to the empty desk next to him. I managed to remember how to walk again and made my way over to the desk, sitting down next to him.
“Hey, you’re Cassie right?” he asked me, his deep voice sending tingles down my spine. “Tansy told me about you.”
“Yeah, and you’re... Greyson?” I asked, pretending not to remember. I did.
“Yeah,” he smiled, nodding. “So, how do you like it so far? The school?”
“I love it! We played dodge ball in P.E. We never got to play dodge ball at my old school, it was so much fun!” I gushed.
“Did you win?” he asked, smiling.
“As a matter of fact she did,” Ethan said, appearing in front of us.
“Hey Ethan,” I said brightly.
“Cassie,” he nodded. “I see I’ve been replaced,” he said, turning to Greyson, who rolled his eyes.
“Come on man, it’s Cassie’s first day, I told her to sit here,” he told him.
“That’s fine,” Ethan sniffed, placing a hand over his heart and pretending to cry. I refrained from telling him that he had his hand on the wrong side of his chest. “Be that way. I’ll find a new best friend,” Ethan sniffed, taking the seat in the opposite row directly across from Greyson. “Anyway,” he said in his normal voice again as he sat down. “Did Cassie tell you that she totally rocks at dodge ball?”
“Does she now?” Greyson asked, looking at me.
“Oh yeah, I totally do,” I said seriously before smiling, making him laugh.
“I’m serious dude she knocked out half the footy team plus a bunch of our players,” Ethan grinned, shaking his head.
“Your players?” I asked him.
“Basketball,” Greyson said as a tall, red headed man with glasses walked in.
“Hello class, I’m Mr Bertram. It seems we have a new student, Lassie Matthews,” he said, peering at the paper closely. I had to stop myself from laughing.
“It’s Cassie,” I smiled. He looked up at me, seemingly uninterested.
“Right,” he said. “This week class we will be looking at the organs of different animals,” he said in monotone. He droned on and on and on about animals’ organs for what seemed like eternity. I had my elbow on the desk and my chin resting on my hand, my eyelids slowly drifting to a close, and I shook my head, sitting upright when I remembered where I was. I heard Greyson chuckle and looked at him.
“You’re not the only one,” he whispered, pointing to an unconscious Ethan drooling on his desk. I giggled.
“Is something funny Lassie?” Mr Bertram asked.
“Uh, it’s Cassie. And no sir,” I said. He nodded, turning back to his lecture. Greyson slid a piece of paper over to my side of the desk, and I looked down at it.
His eyesight sucks but he’s got perfect hearing.
It read. I smirked, trying not to laugh again. I may be acting dumb now, but there was no way I was going to risk getting detention. Something moving at the side of the room caught my attention, and I looked to see Tansy pressed against the window, her nose squashed against the glass. She was smiling brightly and waving at me. I covered my mouth with my hand and nudged Greyson’s arm with my elbow. When he looked at me I pointed to the window, where Tansy was now pulling a face. He looked down at the desk and shook his head.
