QUIRK: Sleep — they can create a radius to make the people around them sleepy and they can make people feel a calming, sleepy sensation when they touch or sing softly to someone. to avoid accidentally putting someone to sleep, they wear gloves and keep to themself when singing
DRAWBACKS: when Mai doesn't get enough sleep, their quirk backfires on them in the form of oversleeping or insomnia. this usually leads to them being grumpy, missing meals, and just being miserable all day. other drawbacks include headaches, fatigue, dizziness, and nonexistent appetite
CURRENT OCCUPATION: a college student majoring in journalism and trying to make a living in being a barista
BASIC KNOWLEDGE
+ Mai is friends with the Bakugo family and is always over at their apartment since their parents dropped contact. they and Katsuki always find themselves playing Mario Kart or Animal Crossing. somehow this ends with Mai and Bakugo wrestling and Mai putting him to sleep with their Quirk
+ Mai attended UA High as a general studies student yet somehow got qualified to attend the hero course. they didn't accept the spot since they had no interest in becoming a hero
+ because of their connection with Aizawa, the two literally have sleep parties where all they do is sleep under layers upon layers of blankets. Aizawa was Mai's favorite teacher at UA even though they weren't in the hero course, but they bonded over their love for sleep, cats, and quality sleeping bags. he's like a father figure to them
+ since Mai knows Bakugo Katsuki, they have met Kirishima, Kaminari, and Sero. the group of boys instantly clicked with Mai and now have monthly Mario Kart tournaments. Mai usually wins them
+ Mai has volunteered as a substitute once for Aizawa when he had to attend hero meetings. they wished they didn't accept it and stayed in bed that day
+ Hawks met Mai on a day off. while the conversation didn't last long, it was a highlight for both of their days. soon enough, Hawks would drop by Mai's apartment and stay with them
+ because of their quirk, Mai was considered an outcast to the hero society they grew up in. their parents were renowned heroes who were praised and loved by all. the pressure of becoming a hero made Mai spite their parents and pursue a college degree and work mundane jobs.
+ the only heroes Mai actually likes and respects are Eraser Head, Hawks, and Mirko. the hero they ABSOLUTELY DESPISE is Endeavor, and will fight any Endeavor fan they come across. they are surprised after finding out that Hawks looks up to Endeavor, but he never makes it a subject in their conversations
+ Mai and Shoto are the chaotic friends who listen to conspiracy podcasts while also making conspiracies of their own. they also like making dark jokes about their shitty pasts and laugh at their parents when they get inconvenienced over petty things
+ whenever Hawks spends the night at Mai's apartment, he always likes when they sing him to sleep. Mai tries to not use their quirk when doing this, but it always seeps out and puts Hawks to sleep. he never mind it since it's the best sleep he gets while also cuddling them
+ Mai's favorite food is cold soba and their favorite dessert is red bean mochi
+ their go-to drink for energy is coffee with extra espresso and a frothy top on it
+ besides writing, Mai likes to draw and paint for fun. while they're not a professional, it doesn't stop them from doing it. Hawks usually joins in and paints with them, but this usually ends with the two covered in paint
+ when put in the same room, Mai and Hawks share one singular brain cell. it's not uncommon to find the two doing something completely stupid and dangerous. Tokoyami can attest to this
+ if Mai did become a hero, their hero name would have been Hypnos, and their hero suit would be a similar style to Eraser Head's since he's the hero they look up to. Aizawa once mentored them back in their early high school days in using the capture binds he uses. Mai enjoyed the one-on-one time and the special bond that grew to what it is now. the mentoring continued until graduation, and even though Mai didn't become a hero, Aizawa was still proud of them and has supported their career ever since
+ Mai, Aizawa, and Shinsou are what the UA students and others around them call the Trio of Sleep. the three also like cats and going to cat cafe's on "father-figure and teen children outings." one of the times the trio went, Mai adopted a cat named Sushi. they still have the cat to this day
+ another group Mai finds themself with is Shoto, Bakugo, and Midoriya. the amount of chaos and calamity that follows the four is enough to make the pro-heroes watch them closely
+ when Hawks begins his mission in infiltrating the LOV-now-Paranormal Liberation Front, he was tasked with recruiting Mai to help get information on the group since their parents are also pro-heroes. Mai's parents instantly scoffed at the idea, calling their eldest child a "weakness" and downgrading their ability to even be close to hero material. Hawks stood up for them and has full confidence in Mai's ability to play the role of a double agent
+ during their time in the Front, Mai was befriended by Twice and Toga, while Compress and Spinner didn't like them. Dabi stayed away from Mai the moment he found out they knew Hawks. as for Shigaraki, he volunteered them in the Nomu experiments the doctor was doing after seeing how useful their Quirk was. after the experimentations, Mai could use their quirk just by looking at someone and had other abilities relating to sleep (i.e. comas, insomnia, hallucinations). other enhancements were enhanced reflexes and senses
+ because of Mai's parents' connection with the HPSC and the commission always surveying them, the commission has tried numerous times to come between the relationship of Hawks and Mai. it doesn't help that Mai's parents despise Hawks for dating their eldest while also being a full-time hero
