You don't know where you are. All you know is that it was peaceful. You look up and saw Al Haitham smiling down at you. You're laying on his lap while he run his fingers through your hair.
Now you noticed that he was sitting against a tree. The sky was clear. The air was refreshing. This is something that you almost never find in the modern world. Most of them were probably just for show.
This is another thing that made you like this world. Though it was progressing nicely it still had the natural beauty of its planet.
'But my family and friends...'
Just as you blinked the whole scenery changed. There was no more Al Haitham nor the peaceful nature you were just in. The grey walls of your apartment appeared.
The doors, windows, paintings, every furniture arranged themselves to the way you were used to them being.
You're now seated on the couch with your family and a few of your close friends surrounding you singing. In front of you was a cake with the words "HAPPY BIRTHDAY (N/N)!" In big letters.
The red and gold decorative over the white frosting of the cake definitely gave it the attention it wanted. And of course you couldn't forget the candles that are arranged to make a circle on the cake.
"Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday dear (N/n)! Happy birthday to yoouuu!"
Their cheerful voices were clear but...
When you look up all of them had no faces. Your mother... Father... Sister... All your friends... None of them had faces. The place where their face was supposed to be was flat as a paper.
You screamed and jumped from the couch. The scene disappeared and now you're left in endless darkness.
You're scared. You hugged your knees and cried.
Why? Why show you such a horrible scene? Why your close ones? That's just cruel..
"Sorry. I couldn't replicate their faces well"
You gasped as the fairy girl appeared in front of you. You backed away from her just like the other night. She didn't try getting closer this time.
"But it wasn't on purpose. I only wanted to show you your family and friends to recreate one of your fond memories... I didn't expect that it had already reached that part"
"What..?"
Reached that part? What did she mean?
She sighed and lowered her head sadly. After thinking for a while she finally looks at you again.
"Your memories... They're fading. You're starting to forget-"
"There's no way! I still remember my family!"
You glared at her but she doesn't seem to react to it. Instead she asked you a question.
"Then could you tell me the name of your parents?"
'What kind of question is that!?'
"Of course I can! My mother's name-"
The words instantly died on your tongue. What was your mother's name again? What was your father's? Your sister's? Your friend's? What are their names!?
You found yourself unable to answer that question. Now you're trying your best to remember it.
What are their names?
What do they look like?
Why can't you remember!?
'Could she be right..? I'm.. starting to forget- no. It's already happening..'
"I see you've now realized the situation"
You look up towards her. She was standing closer. Her face was serious.
"The longer you stay in this world... The more you will forget about your previous one. It is so that you won't change the course of this world by revealing things you shouldn't. It's to keep you quiet in a way. After all you wouldn't be able to reveal anything if you don't know anything"
Keeping you quiet? You've never told anyone that you're not from this world- except...
"Haitham knows..."
The fairy girl nodded her head with her hands behind her back.
"You've already spilled your identity to someone in this world and that person could spread it if he wants. I'm guessing that this world was already trying to mess with your memories after you told someone that information"
"But I told him right after I arrived here.."
"Which means your memories were already starting to fade from that very moment. And do you know how long you've stayed here?"
"Months..."
"Exactly. If my estimation is correct then you'll lose all your past memories in at least a year and a half"
"Then what's going to happen? Am I just going to continue living with half of my life's memory gone? Won't I question where I came from? Which family I come from? What my origin is?"
"That's one of the possibilities... The other one is that this world would replace your memories that would make you fit in here. Create an origin that would make you question less about your past and conceal any holes in the story. It would feel like you've lived in this world from the very start"
No way... Then..
"What about Haitham? I told him about me not being from this world- he even witnessed me appearing in his house! He wouldn't just forget would he!?"
"His memories would most likely be replaced too"
This was... This was too much. You can't handle this right now. The girl sensing your unwillingness to continue the conversation finally left.

[A/N: Have you ever noticed that Reader never really call Al Haitham by his name (except in his mind)? Wonder why..]
