eat. sleep. train. repeat.

that was the cycle your life had turned to. you had no other choice really. you couldn't leave the building without alerting security, you could hardly leave your room without alerting bucky. he was taking his job very seriously, it was almost annoying.

but in a way, you were almost glad it was him keeping an eye on you, and not any of the others. bucky was starting to take to your humour, he often had his own retorts and brushed off any rude comments you made. whereas the others still treated like a total outsider, they wanted nothing to do with you. all you had to do was enter a room to clear it.

not that you minded much. the less you had to see any of them, the better.

"hey," bucky's head popped from behind your bedroom door. "we're going on a mission. meet in the conference room in fifteen."

you just hummed in acknowledgment, not thinking too much of it. you knew this time would come, you just hadn't expected it so soon.

you geared up and made your way down to the conference room, without bucky, who had strangely went on without you. he would normally meet you outside your room when going anywhere.

"hey, finally," steve huffed when you entered the room. it had been almost exactly fifteen minutes since bucky popped into your room so you didn't understand the hostility. or maybe you did.

you had learned to live with everyone's hatred. you ignored them most of the time and just stayed in your own little bubble. it was the only way you would ever get through any of this. that and teasing bucky.

"i'm here, aren't i?" you shot back, taking the last available seat, wedged in between wanda and natasha. neither of them even glanced at you for a second, all eyes were on steve and tony at the end of the room. "what's the deal anyway?"

"pirates," you scoffed when tony spoke. was this a joke? he gave you a frown which told you he was indeed not joking. "multiple hostages, we need to get them out with no casualties."

"no casualties?" you furrowed your brows. "that's wishful thinking— you've got to crack a few eggs sometimes to make an omelette."

you glanced around the room, expecting someone to agree with you, but all you got were unwelcome stares. bucky mumbled a quiet jesus shut up y/n.

"i'm just saying, you're being a little idealistic. i prefer to be a bit more realistic," you grumbled. "the world we live in is harsh and realistic and people die."

"not on our watch—"

"what about sokovia?"

"shut up, y/n," bucky repeated, not even looking at you this time. he wouldn't admit it to anyone, not even himself, but he liked how honest you were, even if it came out mean.

"fine, burry your heads in the sand then," you shrugged, letting out an annoyed huff. "what do i care?"

"just tell us the plan, cap," clint grumbled, wanting the mission to be over as quickly as possible, just like everyone else in the room.

steve went onto explain the plan, who would be teamed up with who, and their individual missions they were to stick to exactly. you were with bucky of course. bucky had to retrieve intel, and you had to watch and learn and not fuck up. which was a little uncalled for you thought.

"how you feelin', buddy?" you nudged bucky's arm as you both left the room and headed for the air transport with the rest of the team. "like a responsible adult? because i feel like a child."

"it's your first mission, they don't trust you," bucky mumbled only to you, and out of everyone's earshot.

"this is not my first mission with these guys," you dismissed him straight away. "i know their strategy like the back of my hand."
