Winter kills me slowly

Winter creeps on me,
With her breezy laugh;
Carrying yellowed leaves,
As Autumn waves goodbye.

For a while, like a child,
She plays hide and seek;
And gradually,
My blankets thicken.

I add on more layers,
Yet she manages to catch me bare;
She holds my hands so tight,
The fire could never warm them.

Every year, she comes,
And separates me from the world.
Her snow-white curtains,
Help find the lost myself in me.

She follows me like a shadow,
Glowing in the sun;
And just like warm things,
My heart shivers at the sight of her.

Though she makes hot coffee,
And roasts marshmallows with me;
She could not help,
But turn others cold.

Even though I love her,
I was born with hot blood;
So, I lay freezing, each year,
As winter kills me slowly.
