Jasper Greene

I grabbed my stuff and went to walk fast past the
kitchen. I didnt want my mama to see me. I still ain
spoke to her since she said I need to forgive my dad
and move on. That shit so weird.

So, I've been stayin at my granny house or wit Devin
till I feel like coming back.

Its been a full week and she wants me back home.

"Jasper, stand yo ass right there." My mama voice
boomed from behind me. I stopped in tracks. I took
a deep breath and turned back around. "Ma'am?" I
tilted my head at her.

She folded her arms, "You cant speak?" I pressed
my lips together and took another breath. "I spoke
to you jus now. I didnt see you in here before." I said
My mom examined me carefully.

I clutched the bag of clothes in my hands. "So you
movin out or something?" She asked, "Really?"

I shook my head, "I'm just taking some time away."

It made her laugh. "Some time away? Jasper, your
father didnt mean anything by what he said." It's
not what he said, its how you took up for him.

I wasn't going to waste my time explaining that to
her. Black parents don't take criticism too well.

"Mama I kno, ian worried bout it. Ima still pay my
part for rent, I'll be back soon." I said.

She shook her head, "Nobody worried bout no rent.
I just want my baby back home."

"Well when he leaves, I'll come back. Until then Im
gone." I shrugged. It made her roll her eyes. "He is
your father Jas! He dont mean no harm." She said.

See now, im mad. "He dont mean no harm by tellin
me nobody wants me? Are you serious?" I asked.
"Or do he dont mean no harm cheatin on you?"

She folded her arms, "Lets not go there. As you kno
most, if not all men cheat. We been through a lot so
ima always make it right wit him." Thas prolly where
I get tha shit from.

Now that im not delulu no mo, that sound like a load
of bullshit. I hope ian sound like that.

"You don't understand cus you young. He ain like
that when he sober. He the best man anybody could
ask for when he's here." Tears formed in her eyes.
"I been wit tha man for over 20 years. If you think
ima let tha one lil flaw ruin it, you wrong."

I folded my arms, "So what im hearing is you gon
choose that bum over me." Her eyes got big, "Jas
ain nobody choosing a soul over you! Im jus not
breaking my family up over bullshit." She said.

Its already broke up.

"I mean, people get a piece of man and try to preach
like they got their shit together." She said. I rolled
my eyes, ian even preaching.

She didnt say anything else, she turned back to her
cooking. I didnt say anything either, I jus stared at
her. She deserves way more better.

My mom was a plus sized, brownskinned woman,
curly haired. She came wit her own money, she can
easily find another man. Or jus not be wit him.
