"Hey Kate. Want to meet up tonight?" Eleanor hollered through the phone.
"Sure El, I'm up for it. Are you coming over or?" I had just come out of the shower after my run. Now I was applying some nail polish to make my busted hands look just a bit more girly. If you lift heavy, you know your hands are screwed.
"Could we meet up at the usual cocktail bar? I just want a girls night, no boys allowed. Then we can really talk. That's been a while."
"Yeah, it has. And I would love that. So should we invite Perrie, Sophia and Luisa as well? They could tag along, maybe we could hit the club afterwards?"
"That would be great... No, actually, can it just be you and I talking? I need that. We could still hit the club, but I don't really want to dress up that much. If that's okay with you, of course."
"You know it is El" I giggled slightly. "Meet you there at 6?"

"How come you always look gorgeous without even trying?" Eleanor questioned me after our traditional greeting hug. I grinned at her.
"I could ask you the same girl!"
We looked seriously at each other for a few seconds before bursting into laughter. We always did that. It was kind of our thing. And we meant it every time. It really helped our confidence, even though we made a joke of it every time.
We took a seat at the bar and ordered our drinks. A skinny bitch for me and a mojito for Eleanor. Not that we were getting drunk tonight. It's just nice to have a drink sometimes.
"So El, how's school going?"
"You know, same old same old. Got quite a big project coming up, but I'm not going to worry about that yet." She smiled, waving the subject away. "But that's not why we're here. There's something big and very important happening next week, right?" She stated more than asked, wiggling her eyebrows. Oh god.
"Uhm No." I said innocently, taking a big gulp of my drink, letting it burn down my throat. I really wasn't used to drinking.
"Oh come on Kate. You're turning 20! That's a big deal! Then you are no longer a teen." She clapped her hands excitedly. "SO. How do you wanna celebrate?"
"Oh God El." I groaned. I really didn't want to celebrate. "You know I'm not into birthdays, I don't want to. And it's quite depressing to know that I'm already halfway to 40! That makes me feel old."
Her face fell, just a bit, at those words.
"But I'm older than you, which means... Argh Kate! Why do you always have to be such a downer! I thought we were gonna have fun tonight!"
"We still can!" I shot back "Just don't talk about my birthday. It is nothing special and I don't want you to do anything special."
